I need to buy one of those one cup coffee makers for my wife, I'm talking about the Senseo type or tassimo or something.

It needs to make good coffee and excellent expresso, not cost an arm and a leg for refills and be easy to use/autocleaning.

Comments, thoughts and ideas (we already have a proper coffee maker, this is for when no one has the time but needs the hit :))

Thanks

Don't buy a Tassimo. 1 Espresso pod barely wets the bottom of the cup. Cappuccino requires 2 x Espresso pods + 2 x milk pods to get a decent cup. 1 Pack of Cappuccino produces 4.5 cups (9 of each pod in a packet) for £3.29.
Trouble is, I've bought the bloody thing now, so I either carry on using it or write it off. I would go for one which you can put whole beans in the grinder on top but they tend to be quite expensive commercial type jobs.

I use a Nespresso machine, which unfortunately costs from £100 and the refills are about 23p per pod. Lots of choice on which coffee you want though.

Automatic coffee maker that makes excellent espresso?

Sorry, it doesn't exist.

Making perfect espresso is something that has yet to be mastered by an automatic machine.

Home cooked fillet steak or McDonalds burger. The latter make be faster but it's shite.

Buy her a pair of shoes instead.

I'm already buying her shoes

I know what you mean, however we already have a proper coffee maker (we have three) and I am master of the one shot. This is for when we cannot be bothered to go make a real one. I know it will not be as good but the nespresso stuff I have tried is not at all bad (and much better than a cup of instant which is the alternative).

The Senseo isn't bad. It makes better than instant, but not as good as an expresso coffee. Easy to use and refill. Pods are cheap although the choice of brands is limited. Before deciding, check your local supermarket sells the pods you intend to use..... Mine didn't for ages and I had to make a special trip across town which was a pain.

Sorry. I'm Italian. I can't begin to comprehend the idea of drinking bad coffee.

Imagine me suggesting to you that it's ok to drink flat, warm lager.

Threaten to burn all of her shoes if she tries to give you bad coffee.

Let me be clear, I won't be drinking it, the machine is for her!

And so Italian you cannot comprehend drinking rubbish coffee and yet you can own a german car. My that must hurt

Lastly, I don't drink larger (unless forced) real beer, fine wine and spirits everytime (sometimes all at once).

Thanks

rather than spend money on a fourth coffee machine, (what's wrong with the other 3?) why not buy a reusable one cup coffee filter. Easily available at Whittards of Chelsea and you can use whatever ground coffee you like.

But if you absolutely must buy another machine, try this:

If she's happy drinking average coffee, fine, I was only giving you my professional advice.

My comment about the lager was to give you an idea of how I felt about drinking bad coffee. Maybe a bottle of warm Lambrini might have been a better analogy.

Finally, me driving a German car? Well, in the U.K., yes I drive a German car because, from experience, U.K. grease monkeys aren't capable of maintaining the average Italian car. Does it hurt, you ask? Well, not really, I have Italian cars in Italy.

Maybe you should get yourself a Horlicks machine as well.

I can get a machine that makes horlicks how cool, maybe I can get malted milk while I'm at it.

On a more serious note (getting back onn thread) when you say prefossional advice do you mean you are in the coffee trade or just that you are italian?

We've got one in the office here. Very easy to use, has it's own water filter in the reservoir and easy to keep clean. Almost too easy actually, when I started here, I used to have 4-5 espresso's a day!!! rationed to 2 a day now.

Taste - It's not that bad, although you really can taste the difference when you have good ground coffe from a Gaggia machine operated by a decent Barista. It's better than some of the muck that's been presented to me as 'espresso' however.

Another vote for Nespresso here !
Pricey, but well worth it. I've had a Krupps Nespresso machine for about 7 years now. Still going strong ( the machine that is ) and just order the capsules via the net, next day delivery.
Just as good, often better, than most coffee shops
