I had a multiple sliding doors day this week. Anybody else have these multiple sliding door daya at work or in your personal life?

31st August.

A dispute with a client arose just before the weekend over a copyright issue which had the potential to undermine another much larger contract we were hoping to use the work on.

Some numpty administrator was trying to undo 2 years work on another project by suggesting a 'focus group'rather than the research work we had done to decide on the content of their staff survey. Was holding up a web site design where deadlines were already tight. They then bogged off early for an extended weekend before we could put our case and they had to sign it off.

A difficult client had dumped a load of unplanned work on me which I had said I would do but only if they paid the extra cost of working a weekend. Danger they would withdraw all work if we didn't do it quick smart at the usual price.

After a weekend of concern and planning what I would do if each one went pear shaped on Wednesday:

The first client capitualted and did recall the conversation agreeing to the use of their materials (lesson: get in in writing next time).

The numpty was put back in his box by the client project manager and we were back on track.

The third client agreed to pay up.

Life went from being very stressful to plain sailing in just under an hour. Had the door shut I would have been working all he hours for the next 3 months and it would have cost us a tidy sum.

I am now waiting for the day when all 3 things go the other way!
