I heard the London bombings being refered to on the radio this morning as '7/7', and the 'July 7th' bombings.
I nearly ripped the radio out the wall!
What is wrong with these people? Does sensationalism really work for the Brit masses? Do we really want to be yank-ified AGAIN, by our own media?
FFS - Do these people not realise the British way is the 7th of July, and not the other way round? And that just because it's a result of an act of terrorism do they seem to want to set a trend by imitating the US on a pi$$pot Brit scale?
Sometimes I'm astonished by the attitude of the media in this country.

I'm sorry, but I don't see why everything nowadays should be done the american way.
WE ARE NOT YANKS!!!
i agree screwing around with the date like that putting the month before the day as well, damn ass confusing god darn yanks...
I must admit that the medias obsession with making things easy to remember is rather strange. People talk of 9/11, but not forgetting that the US uses a completely different scheme for their months / days.... but their emergency code is 911 obviously.....
As for calling the 7th July 7/7 - this is rather strange. Not particularly mad about it, but attempting to draw some sort of similarity to 9/11 is a little odd. Cant remember the final figures for the New York attack, but seem to remember 3000 while London is around 53 (IIRC). Not trying to belittle either attrocity here, but they are very different.
Anyone missed the year anniversary of the Beslan siege where 331 people died. Its a tragic and depressing time in the world....

Both numbers are the same look....7/7
How do you know they mean the month first??

agree, it seems a bit like mass-sensationalism - though it's been like this since the late Diana.
i also know it's Thursday when...
1) i hear sound of dustbins & bin-men
2) see armed police at the tube station
watching Sky News is almost Orwellian, 1984-style.

I was a little worried about replying for this exact reason. Calling the bombings 7/7 does annoy me and whilst it was a terrible terrible thing it came nowhere close to 9/11.
All tragedies are relative. The same emotions are felt by affected people regardless of scale. But turning the terrorist attrocities into a sort of conglomerate with different dates as names is, in my opinion, unnecessary and in poor taste.

I did a little test.
If you put the day before the month, ie UK-style, you get '7/7'.
However, if you adopt the American pattern of month before day, you get '7/7' instead.

Not yet, but give it time
I'd rather be American than French. We have nothing in common with the latter; they just happen to be 22 miles away.
