I'm not a big smilies user but this one confuses me. ""
I know it is labelled "(sarcastic)" in the legend, obviously  but it also seems to be used to replace a Homeresque Doh! As in "I don't know how to clean my shower curtain:rolleyes:"
It also seems to be used at the begining of a reply to infer that a previous poster is a moron as in " It must have taken you hours to come up with that. / This was posted four hundred years before the invention of the internet. / You are a big girl and I don't like you."
The only context you don't seem to see it in is to indicate that the following reply is sarcastic. In view of the other current threads concerning the correct use of english (dont know what I mean by that one it just came upon me), could we have some propoer gramatic rules for the use of smilies and in particular ""
Should a smilie be considered to constitute a comma or semicolon when placed in a sentence and if at the end is a full stop neccessary? (can it replace a question mark:rolleyes:)
Obviously this post should be taken with a hint of .
Yours
Major Reginald Ballsover (rtd) (Mrs)
Sir,
I must take issue with the previous poster's over use of the
smilie.
When I first joined this site I too was guilty of this until it was pointed out to me by jonRB(
(
) ) that it was really quite rude to over use the
smilie and that it should only be used when wishing to convey the 'attitude' 'err, right, whatever you say.'
yours faithfully
