If anyone enjoyed this film, good documentary on bbc2 now about the real story.
Very interesting... saddening too though
Brilliant film. What makes it all the more sad is that it's a true story. The really sad thing is the scale of the murders that were carried out, and the world's inaction to those unfolding events. Also highlighted the uneven treatment that African citizens get from the rest of the world.

Brilliant movie. Makes you wonder why the UN doesn't do more around the world... I suppose its just not in their 'interest'.
to busy lining their own coffers, they dont have much authority to do crap all anyway, its a fairly useless organisation that should have been canned years ago.

Or indeed what treatment African citizens get from other African citizens eh ?
The extent of hatred that has been bred into this culture, which originates from an artifical separation of the two peoples, is quite amazing.
I presume its all going to boil down to evil white invaders?

No, but perhaps it's on your mind.
Not sure what that means, but I won't jump the gun again.. explain...
As you brought up the subject, with no prompting from me, or anyone else, perhaps it was an issue that was in your mind. Perhaps not. However I wouldn't assume what you or anyone else is thinking.

heard it too many times on PH. Its the white folks fault for the middle east, its the white folks fault in Africa.. Just seems a nice scapegoat.
I was under the impression you felt that way from the wording of your post. If yu do then fine, if not, then erm.. fine as well..
As I said, I didn't say that. The violence was caused by the tensions between two ethnic groups (although, to all intents and purposes, they are the same ethnic group). The film drew this point out, quite purposefully, to demonstrate the ridiculous nature of such prejudice, but illustrating the ultimately tragic consequences of this behaviour.
If you can't see that, or you failed to spot those references in the film, then perhaps you need to watch it again. Also, if you labour under the weight of such accusations, then you must have a very strange perception of how the rest of the world perceives you.

WTF? I know all about Rwanda. I've posted about it, and the Congo several times. I am not some eejit who knows nothing. My post was a response to you mention artificial speration. By all means explain what the artificial seperation is, and stop sccusing me of 'labouring under the weight of such allegations'. Its got nothing to do with what happened in the past, or what concequenses it has in the present.
So come on, instead of twisting words around to suit your own purpose, what did you mean by 'artificial speration'??

You've got the bit firmly between your teeth haven't you? You're so tightly wound up on this issue that your just itching for an opportunity, aren't you?
As I have explained on already on this thread, but you choose to ignore, because you wish to label me with your preconceived and frankly crass generalisations about what I believe or don't believe, the 'artificial' separation was alluded to in the film, ie the choice of certain tribesmen to be Hutu and others Tutsi by the colonials.
However, before you start foaming at the mouth again, I would like to point out to you that this FACT does not in anyway explain or justify the violence perpetrated in Rwanda by these peoples. The people there created their own racial divide, even where one didn't exist and then carried out a viciously vindictive campaign, in the name of it.
I hope that explains it all for you. If it doesn't give you an excuse to start going on about how PC I am being, or if that doesn't fit into your preconceptions of me, then I am very sorry, you'll have to pick a fight elsewhere tonight.

He probably just meant the colonial powers used the old divide and conquer trick to stop the native giving too much co-operative resistence. Worked a treat but also worked a little too well as they are now doing it all on their own. Same thing in India and the middle east, all our fault.
Well ok the fault of a few short sighted people a quite while ago but still we are nice enough to help them get back on their feet, except decisions are still made by a few morons in high places with no idea about anything...what was that about learning from past mistakes?
Europeans may have conquered africa by force but now we are in danger of killing them with misguided compassion and ignorance.

Stuff..
Look 0898... I admitted I jumped the gun with the 'artificial separation' bit, AND I apologised, but you had to carry it on. However, I understand why you brought up artificial seperation, and thus the 'evil white people' remark, as it gets dragged up whenever there is a conflict in Africa.
And as for the "You've got the bit firmly between your teeth haven't you? You're so tightly wound up on this issue that your just itching for an opportunity, aren't you?". Yeah.. I am a mad raving BNP type person. I jsut wait to delve knee deep into this type of bullshit argument. Why I would be wound up I don't know. You have me all wrong on that score. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I've probably spent more time in Africa than 99% of the people on this board. I've been there and done it, and for you to think i have issues with the place is way off the mark.
You can, however drop artificial seperation into a thread, and then back away, shaking your head, as if you didn't say it. Thats your perogative.
