Last year, we had the central heating replaced, but they didnt do a very good job of re-laying the chipboard that laughably goes down as floorboards in newer houses. They had butchered it pretty well with a band saw, and put it back down in patchy chunks, with the resulting wobbly, spongy, creaky bits upstairs, it was a cheap job :D
Anyway, today I got up early and had this urge to do something about it, so I have moved all the furniture about in every upstairs room, lifted the carpet and the floors and screwed everything down much more solidly, had to put loads of extra support pieces in to and used hundreds of screws.
I started at about 9am and finished at about 4.30pm, worked solid right through, put all the carpets and furniture back, then sat back in the lounge with a very cold beer...
...and contemplated the spreading damp patch on the lounge ceiling :yikes:
yep...I had gone through a pipe somewhere with one of the many hundreds of screws put in. Luckily it was easy to find, had to lift some carpet again, undo what I had just put down, then put a straight connector compression joint where the hole in the pipe was.
So how was your bank holiday?

Should've stuck to what your good at, and got the car out.
Never going handling builders tools when there's not a certified B&Q be-apronned helper about to wrench it from your cold dead grip.
such angels of DIY-mercy, can be procurred from front of store or in the form of helpful public information pamphets pocketed on the way out of Homebase.
shame on you,
polish out indeed

I spent yesterday afternoon taking the radiator and water pump off this thing:
Even with the car lift, I now have no skin on any of my knuckles and I walk like the Hunchback of Notre Dame because my lower back can't take the strain.
I am now looking forward to next weekend so that I can put it all back together again.
And when it is finished what will I have?
A 35hp automatic Mini.
Why did I buy the bloody thing?
For a cheap bit of fun.......
They don't call me Pat the Twat for nothing.
Cheers

Been there, done that. about 10 years ago except I was using nails on creaky floorboards.
GF says to me can I have a go. so of she goes happily banging in nails. I walk out to go to the toilet come back to a floor board well and truly nailed. only not nailed around the outside as she was doing beofre I left oh no.
A nice neat row of nails right down the middle

A child of that age shouldn't need her rad/water pump changing. Doesn't she have a warranty?
If you take her to the local dealer, they tend to return her with more problems than she went in with.
A friend of mine went in to a main dealer for a routine service, but the useless buggers managed to write him off...
we have all done the screw nail thing with a pipe.
but in future when you have the boards up,mark the position of the pipes onto the boards as you put them back down.
i have spent best part of the day trying to fix a leak from the back of a toilet where it goes into the soil pipe. got covered in silicone and still do not know its fixed.
i could blame the fool that fitted the toilet originally but it was me...
