Are YOU a Christian Fundamentalist??
Discussion
Top Ten way to spot a Fundamental Christian!
10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.
9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.
7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!
6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.
5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.
4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."
3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.
2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.
1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Im converted

I'm a Surflamic Fundamentalist, opportunities are rare for worship during the summer but when the opportunity is there, you have to worship at least 4 times a day until it hurts. I have negated the special beard but still look like an armpit with eyes. My religion comes before everything, work, women, food, mates, when it is time to worship I must go.
Time to go and check the surf again!

Andy, are you on some kind of overtly anti-religious agenda? There is a difference between un-PC jokes, and those which are downright rude and insensitive. This falls into the latter, IMO.
I am not humour impaired nor am I a Jesus freak - but the tone of your comments is one of utter disdain and contempt for what many people see as a worthy pursuit (in spite of your remarks, which are as extremist and unreasonable as the ones being spouted off by the fundamentalists you speak of).
Christianity in essence is a good thing - it is just people that use it as an excuse for suffering that is bad. If Christianity wasn't around, they'd find something else to use as a scapegoat for power-chasing. All the genuine Christians I know happen to be the nicest, most educated and most reasonable people I know, but yet who see complete reason in their faith and beliefs. And I respect that, because I respect them.
You are entitled to your own opinion and all that, but this strikes me as a particularly sniding and spiteful attack, which to be honest doesn't lend your "argument" any semblance of credibility.

Disagree old chap.
Many of his points are uncannily accurate reflections of my own personal experiences with BornAgains.
Not a Christian - Burn in hell
Errm what if they've spent their entire life caring unselfishly for others, but aren't a christian
Burn in hell
Errm what if they've given their own life in the most unselfish sacrifice to protect a total stranger, but, because they've never heard of Christ, they're not a christian. (Imagine a remote Amazonian tribe)
Burn in hell
Perplexing.
Twofaced, uncaring of others not of their ilk, irrational, vindictive, arrogantly superior.
The Chosen Few - yeah right.
Note: the initial post was against 'fundamentalists', not anyone who believes in God and is tolerant of others

And if the subject matter had been Muslims and not Christians, then the thread would probably have been deleted by now.
However, all religions involve the blind and unquestionning worship of something which is a figment of the collective guilt warped imagination of the believers.
As these people spend inordinate periods of time bowing and scraping to something that plainly does not exist, then they can hardly be surprised when people take the piss.
Cheers

Christianity in essence is NOT a good thing. As a philosophy, with its basis on a system of posthumous rewards or punishments and the corolary that life was something merely to be endured, it retarded human development for 1300 years until the renaissance began to challenge some of the church's accepted wisdom.
But that has nothing to do with the church today you say? All those nice educated reasonable people you refer can only continue to be Christians by a combination of scriptural ignorance or repudiation. They are treating a supposedly perfect and infallible book as a pick-and-mix, taking only the bits they like and heretically ignoring those bits of the Bible that the Enlightenment and modern society have shown to be beyond the pale.
This year leading Christians have tried to stop or obsfuscate the teaching of evolution despite the overwhelming evidence in its favour and the lack of any kind of challenge to its supremacy. This year leading Christians have called for the assassination of world leaders because they disagree with their beliefs. This year leading christians have continued to foster intolerance and hatred of those who differ from their path. This is not an ideology to be defended, but derided.
But here's the real kicker, by being a moderate Christian (or muslim for that matter), you are (though you would deny this) supporting the extremist wings of your religion. By saying that you believe the bible to be true and the word of god, you are giving credence to those who follow its teachings more faithfully than you, those who don't ignore but embrace the less savoury parts of your religion such as the order to kill your own child should they perform such a heretical act as to attend a buddhism class.
We do not need to believe that a virgin got pregnant with a supernatural sperm donor, nor that a supernatural creator spent his time intricately designing the 250,000 species of Beetle to be found on this planet in order to have morality. Democracy, our fellowship and responsibility as men towards each other and the basic human rights that are enshrined in our morality today can all be found in the works of philosophers who died 400 years before the birth of Christ. Yes the original post was flippant, but its message was not. Christianity has bred too much pain and intolerance not to be challenged and ultimately discarded.

I agree with Deadlock and Pat. Surely everyone on here is entitled to their own views and beliefs without being vilified and marginalised for them.
And surely people are entitled to post what they feel on the basis that if someone is offended by it - why are they reading the post?!?!
If one was a homophobic, one would not go into a gay bar for a drink no?
