The army are having a recruitment push at the Gay Pride festival in Manchester
:scratchchin:

I do not suffer from homophobia. But surely the army are a bit off target here?

Surely men that love men would generally be less effective in a war than football hooligans, for example. Would the army not be better employed trying to target youths brawling outside a football stadium than Gay men/women that are happy to love it up with each other?

I don't know, I'm just devils avacado.

:)

The Armed Forces have been well served by many courageous gay personnel down the years, a fair number of them highly decorated for gallantry as well.

Your homophobic prejudices seem to be confusing homosexuality with effeminacy.

Er, why on earth do they feel the need to bother?

If the institution accepts homosexuality - which I'm quite confident it doesn't, broadly speaking - then this is yet another depressing signpost en route to our final destination of total, politically correct facism.

On the subject of feeling compelled to proclaim one's proclivities generally, the very concept of 'homosexual solidarity' via celebratory march seems utterly self defeating from an integrationalist point of view, amyway.

Which right thinking person gives a flying f@ck in a rolling doughnut which way an individual swings?

Utterly pathetic and for my money as counterproductive as any other 'look at me/us' organisational pyschology.

I know plenty of gay men who agree with you.

Worth googling about the ancient Greeks for that one, they found the opposite.

Name some. Not disputing that there are any, just curious to know who they are.

Yes, sorry, you're quite right, I gather you can get waterproof makeup these days which is more robust, but I am informed, is available in an equally wide range of radient colours

Just imagine a "Straight Pride" march.

"Proud to be straight!"

Marching: Utter tosh.

I'm no expert but Lawrence of Arabia stands out as a very courageous member of the armed forces.

Wouldn't be allowed.

It would probably deemed offensive to various minority pressure groups.

Is it just my bigoted attitude that makes me think of Monty pythons ' military fairy ' sketch after reading this story ?

Oooh get her! Whoops!
I've got your number ducky.
You couldn't afford me, dear. Two three.
I'd scratch your eyes out.

Don't come the brigadier bit with us, dear,
We all know where you've been, you military fairy!

Whoops, don't look now girls,
The major's just minced in
With that dolly colour sergeant,
Two, three, ooh-ho!

On the other hand, most of the committed lesbians I've had the misfortune of working with ooze hatred of the male sex through every pore of their (short, fat, hairy) bodies.

They seem to like wearing army boots and combat trousers, too.

Now that would put the fear of Allah into whoever Bliar and Dubbya decide to pick a fight with next.
