After watching Bad Lads Army and a lot of postings/news items about the yoof of today I was wondering if the National Service could or should be brought back? Could it be implemented in this age of lentists? Any ideas?

For me yes.

I believe that a lot of these lads just need some guidance that they never received at home.

No better way of breaking someones attitude than using the military to break them down and rebuild them.

It was the best thing I ever did joining the Royal Navy.

what bothers me about lentilists is that there so against me eating meat, yet they have no problem with repeated and continued legume-icide.

as ever, its one one rule for those who have morally-upright-but-rickets-riddled-calcium-deficient-bones and another rule for the rest of us.

Bad Lads Army is rather more sensationalist than National Service was (reality TV geddit?)

I don't think it would do any harm and could well do some good. Better that yoofs paints rocks safely than gets pissed on lager and start fights in the high street.

I was a CCF cadet and it teaches you a certain something, not least how to walk upright!

Thing that bothers me about bad lads army is that they dont have any REAL incentive to complete it.

I mean if they were sent there by a judge who ordered that if they defect or get kicked out, they go back to jail for 6 months or so - THAT would be more interesting - I bet they wouldnt be so gobby to the base commander then...

As it stands they can just get kicked out and thats that so I dont get it...

If you could get the right sort of leadership at NCO level, then National Service would be a good idea.

However, in the real world the quality of leadership is not present in enough quantity to make it a decent proposition.

You would end up with a lot of good people being messed up, and have little or no positive effect on a lot of bad people...
