Going to a Body Combat class tonight at the gym and just wondering what I should expect!

This is the description from the gym...
Combines powerhouse moves and stances developed from a range of self-defence disciplines including Karate, Kickboxing, Tai Chi and Tae Kwon Do, into a “take no prisoners”, adrenaline pumping routine. It is an empowering, athletic workout that will have you “fighting fit” in record time!
Sounds fun but also have no idea what I'll actually be doing!!! :hehe:

Dunno, but it sounds cool! I feel like I could do with a form of exercise that takes out agression on people. Let us know how it goes!

Haiiiiiii-Ya!

Ive done that its brilliant. After first session i couldnt feel my legs for days after and when i could feel them they hurt like hell. You just dont stop for what seems eternity. Its a bit like suped-up boxercise. Unless you've already got a reasonable amount of fitness your gonna be in pain. Works tho-does what it says on the packet and got me fit.

I've done it before and it's excellent. A great workout and very therapeutic if you've had a bad day!

haha great
Well I'll be in the gym this morning anyway so hopefully muscles might not be too bad. Then again could have the opposite affect and make them worse! Ahh well no pain no gain!

I had a feeling none of the usual martial arts thread posters would reply.

Do you actually hit something or is it all just flailing limbs? Sounds like it'll get you fit but why not just go to a Thai-boxing class? you'll get fit and learn how to chin people at the same time. Bargain!

be careful with body combat - having taught it and participated in it I found I suffered more niggly injuries with it than any other similar type of class.

The biggest problem with it is there is not enough emphasis on technique and the music is so fast that beginners especially struggle to put the combos together.

Interestingly, I'd just mentioned technique to someone in an email, only I was guessing a lack of this was the case with BC. I can't imagine they'd stop the music and the class to correct someone's bad technique.

And probably avoid hyper-extending those joints.

What I can say, is that if you are going to 'give it a go', give it your all! Really do not take prisoners!

As others have/may have mentioned, you will suffer niggling little injuries, but as far as I am concerned, that's just anoy=ther dimension to it! Something to savour!
You may also notice that if you keep it up, you pain threshold will inexorably rise to high levels and that pain is something to use against an opponent (we're talking for real here and believe me, it works!).

Hope this helps!

If, however, it involves no real contact, ignore what I just said, unless you want to give a martial art a go....

the missues raves about this, and that body pump - which appears to be aerobics with free weights...

Well at the moment it's only going to be a one off as I'm doing at trial at the gym, if I enjoy it I'd love to keep it up so long as I can fund it and have the time to go with uni and 2 jobs!!

It's a load of rubbish from my point of view (kickboxing / kung fu instructor last 16 years)

My girlfriend does it (and loves it) and nagged me into going once so I thought I would try it...

It's good exercise but the stances and techniques they make you do are a million miles from "combat"... I told her it was rubbish and I refused to do it again.

It's definitely a girl thing!

i regularly spar with a couple of girls. I would never make a comment like that as it would always end in humiliation and disaster.

hehe it was great fun!
Leant lots of little tips and was thoroughly nackared by the end of it! Regretting the weights I did yesterday now after all those press ups at the end!

Glad you enjoyed it!

My missus started doing this a few years ago, and now she is a black belt kickboxer, so it must have been good!!!

Don't fight cats, then.
