Despite me notifying the DVLA twice in writing that i have the correct tax disc on my car, they have sent me a letter this morning from the courts asking for payment or my defence,
I've rung the office and its obviously my fault.. :rolleyes:
Can i invoice them for the time i've wasted on this?

I've got EXACTLY the same problem as you with the DVLA! Its unbelieveable how they can eff up so much... I've been meaning to get round to writing to them with a photocopy of my tax disc etc. but never got round to it. Until the other night, I got tugged by the BiB the other night in my Integrale, and they spent ages peering at my tax disc as they were convinced it was a fake as they obviously must have checked the DVLA record when stopping me which flagged me up as having no tax even though I AM taxed! Would it be possible to do the DVLA for flouting the Data Protection Act - i.e bandying about malicious and untrue information about myself?!

Well, each disc has a serial number, and somewhere there must be a record of what disc has been issued to what car...
or is that too much to assume?

I sold the Alfa back at the end of March.
Never got the DVLA letter to confirm change of ownership, so I phoned them a few weeks ago to enquire why not.
The reason they told me was that there was a query about the V5.
I asked if they had tried to contact us, so that we could help and answer the query ..... to which they replied "no".
So, we've been 'liable' for this car since March.
Fortunately I had a colour copy of the V5 which we sent them, along with a ton of other paperwork, so sent that all off too ....

I taxed my car on the due date at a post office.
That night, a passenger opened the door in a gale and the tax disc flew out.
I went to the local DVLA next day to explain.
that's all right, sir, we'll give you a duplicate for a few quid...

Oh, well, I can't give you a duplicate until it shows on our screen as taxed, and docs from the post office can take up to six weeks to reach us...
I've got your money, come back in six weeks and I'll give you a duplicate....
Here's a letter to produce if you get pulled.....
All goes well....six weeks later I get a duplicate disc.
Two months later.....and I get a fixed penalty through the post. A traffic warden saw me drive by weeks earlier when I was waiting for DVLA records to update....
Grumble, grumble, mutter mutter.....off to DVLA office again....
