So, it emerges he was "partially identified" by a policeman when he left his flat.

He got on a bus to the tube station.

He bought a paper, and DID NOT vault the barrier.

He ran for the tube as the doors shut, and sat next to a policeman.

The policeman wrestled him to the floor, immobilising him by pinning his arms behind his back.

He was then shot in the head.

So basically it seems the police have lied through their teeth?

So why did they shoot him? And why would UK coppers, in an enviroment where guns are not a major part of life, and the officers are not trigger happy, would they just shoot some random chap repeatedly in the head? Sounds like bollox to me. The initial reports, I could see how he would have been shot, but if he sat next to copper, and he wrestled him to ground, then they shot him? That is very unlike armed response type peeps.

No big padded jacket at all, look at the picture, it was a lightweight denim jacket. See pic.

Police disinformation.

The cop who was observing the flats and had the camera couldn't video him coming out because and I quote from the report " I couldn't use the camera because I was relieving myself". Seriously. Now whether that meant he was having a wank or a piss it didn't elaborate.

The initial Police briefing said that he vaulted over the turnstiles. Bullshit, he stopped to pick up a Metro (the free paper) used a ticket to get through the turnstile and only started running when he saw the tube on the platform, like anyone else would do if they wanted to catch their tube.

So he goes in and sits down, the cops come running in and grab him holding his arms down by his side then cop 1 unloads 8 rounds, 7 of which hit him in the head, cop 2 fires 3 rounds 1 which hits him in the shoulder.

I mean 7 rounds in the head, what the was he on ?

Their brief was to stop him getting on the tube at all costs, however they allowed him to walk to the bus stop, catch a bus, walk normally into the tube station and only start running on the concourse when he saw his tube was about to leave.

No rucksack, no padded jacket, no positive ID, ed up police intelligence, 2 trigger happy edgy cops, 1 dead innocent Brazilian.

Comprehensive ITN news report with restricted confidential police documents.

This is a synopsis, the actual programme was damning.

Not known for 4 people to blow themselves up on the tube killing 50 odd either.

And this was the day after.

One shouldn't laugh under these circumstances but that's funny as , and exactly what the rest of the nation was thinking.

I think we are getting a little bit carried away.

The police haven't realeased anything public yet, not that I am aware of anyway.

Hilts version of events are ridiculous, espically calling our police trigger happpy. I don't think we should be quick to condemn the police without know the proper facts.

The policeman were told to follow the suspect and stop him from getting on a tube at any cost.

A larger number of shots would be required with low velocity rounds due to the fact they do much less damage and if the police do decide to take the shot then they have to make sure the job is done.

What does it matter if the policeman fires 1 shot or 50 if he is intentionally going to kill the suspect to try and save life's.

The ITV report has not been verified and could just as easily be a fake.

I will wait for the offical findings before passing judgement.

I am reserving judgement on this until the full investigation is complete.

However, I would make this point.

Given the events of that week, and the difficulty of the task facing the police I will continue to consider this man a further victim of the bombers until I am shown otherwise.

It would appear that due to a complex and tragic set of circumstances, a terrible event occurred. I hope we don't get hung up in a counter-productive witch hunt.

Its a leak, so it must be true... After the IRA, etc, we have enough experience, especially in the specialist arms of law enforcment, not to get 'trigger happy' and edgy. It was a mistake, yes, but I think the problem lies higher up, rather than with the chaps on the ground.

sounds pretty grim at first glance.
i will also reserve judgement till all the facts emerge, but as a (law-abiding) commuter for over 12 years, it really sounded liked the police f*d up big time, when i heard the original news.

i don't want to knock the great job the Met have done in keeping Londoners safe, but this sort of stuff just shouldn't happen.

have to admit i'm too scared to run for the train/tube anymore... especially in anything more than a t-shirt / or with my i-Pod pluged in.

really feel for the family of the Brazilian.

A nimber of points need clarifying about the News report and web summary.

As I recall:

He wasn't "partially identified" by the relieved rozzer:

The wording quoted on the News was that he radio'd that the Brazilian was "worth a look" if I recall correctly.

The "positive identification" seems to be based on the (pale) Brazilian having being classified as the same ethnic type as one of the Ethiopian suspects!

The "lightweight denim jacket" looks suspiciously like an even lighter denim shirt to me.

The web article reports a member of the surveillance team quoted in the report, but the News report pointed out that his statement was at odds with witnesses (shot sitting down!).

As for the possibility of this being fake / a hoax:

Both the police and the Home Secretary have declined to comment as an investigation is underway and they don't want undue pressure put on the enquiry or prejudice the outcome.

Duh?

Surely if the leak is a fake then not pointing that out would be putting pressure on the inquiry?
