Is this how you are going to pump up your monster before you show it to the public?

What I never understood was that the bloke in the rock who was in the room when the nerve gas escaped had all sorts of funny blisters/fat tongue/exploding face/bleeding ears-eyes when the stuff got released, when it happened to Sean Connery, he was fine, apart from that he had to inject adrenaline into his own heart!

Chemistry is a magic old subject and a lot of the stuff can get you high/dead/exploded. The stuff which messes with your enzymes can cause you to cease functioning on a nano scale. There are zillions of ways to kill a human on every possible approach, you can make carbon monoxide form in the blood, stuff which creates sulphur dioxide in your blood which you absorb through your skin, things which kill you instantly and by doing so erase the traces of themselves. As a chemist, I pride myself in being able to kill/explode/make things get high from my immediate surroundings, a kind of crocodile dundee with glassware!

LM - I thought all the fun chemistry was either illegal or seriously watched.

I'd be happy making fun psychoactives with my basic knowledge of chemistry, a usable lab glassware kit and some accessible precursors - but the ingredients are watched by the bastard goverment.

I'd be wary of making any entertaining fun-filled explosives, especially in the current climate of big-brother freedom-limiting fear of terrorism. Mr Average fuel/oxidiser explosive is easy to make (as you well know) but could draw the wrong sort of attention.

As to poisons / nerve agents / etc. - too dangerous for me, both for killing myself and for giving off the impression of being a terrorist / contract killer Anything lethal to average humans at microgram quantities sounds a nightmare to deal with safely, I'd want a full NBC suit, a professionally equipped lab and some serious fume cupboard / waste disposal facilities!!!

(chemistry is fun, though I am more scared of biological warfare - easier to produce and harder to contain. Pesky biologists, poooh)

Mr Cyberface, your Rough Science challenge is to produce a psychoactive phenethylamine in three days.

You have: thinners, propane, dry batteries, scrap cars, gas mantles and a cave full of bat shit.

Your time starts... Now.

On a kind of related note, how would we deal with a "dirty bomb" such as in central london? Is there any way of cleaning up the radioactive material or is it a case of leaving the area for 50 odd years?

The areas contaminated can be cleaned using various decontamination solutions, but its very time consuming. It would probably result in the effected area being closed off for several months.

What scares me is the covert release of radioactive isotopes into food or water supplies Its easy to do and would cause widespread panic and fear....
