Mopeds on Duel Carrageways

I know its allowed by law but how can anyone be so stupid?!
All this week in rush hour I have experienced coming round a slight bend at various parts of the A38 and seeing a moped pootling along at 28.2 MPH or less being avoided by inches by other vehicles!!!!!!

Would a police officer "have a quiet word" if he saw a moped riding along a fast road like that? If not for their own safety?!

I still laugh at the memory of me passing everyone in the fast lane of the M25 on my old scooter. At around 94 unspecified velocity units, with me wrapped in the middle of the bike and the throttle nearly twisted off 
Even outdragged some guy in a 360 Modena up to 35 mph, with my front wheel off the ground. Cue astonished looks all round
So yes, there are some reasonably nippy mopeds. AFAIK you need a 125cc or greater to ride on motorways, not sure about armco'd dual carriageways... any scooter with a 125 will be capable of at least 60 mph unless it's shagged.

Anything that's road legal, no minimum.
Nope, you have to have a 125cc to go on motorways, but you can go on most dual carriage ways on a 50cc. BTW, it was only at 28mph coz when you're 16 you are limited to 30mph max.

Yeah, it's definately a cause for a big debate, allowing scooters on dual carrigways or not. Good Lord, i'm not even sure the sun will rise tomorrow if we don't get this resolved.

king do hey look there is another spelling mistake well faaaalaaaa de daaaaaaa." I am very chilled, I just don't see the point in pointing out every tiny little clerical error on a post... Does it make the people that do it feel big or something? Who knows....

Well, there used to be signs when you got on a motorway listing types of prohibited traffic, and one of the entries was bikes under 50cc. So 50-125cc was fine (legally) as long as you had a full licence for the size of bike. I suppose they could have changed it now, as that was quite a long time ago.

I Would like to see a police officer "have a quiet word" with any vehicle avoiding the moped by inches, as that would seem to be piss poor driving

Yes it would... on a clear straight road. The A38 has lots of gentle sweeps. If you were doing your perfectly legal 70, came round a sweep to discover a moped wobbling around at 22-28MPH then it would probably be a close call no matter what.
Some of the moped riders are very good and keep as far left as possible, most however ride in the out 3rd of the inside lane which is fine for conventional vehicles doing 50+
