Exeter Stag Do

Hi All,

I'm off to Exeter this weekend for my stag do. Never been there before, seems like a nice place. Any suggestions for pubs and clubs to go to and ones to avoid like the plague :eek:

Aye, i wouldn't particularly recommend Exeter for a night out and i'm at uni there! Still, best cocktail bar is prolly the Amber Rooms, which'll be up the same end of town as Debenhams (the bloody great big ugly building) and the club Arena. Arena smells of puke, is just 1 big room, but i actually have quite a larf there - though i wouldn't reccomend it.

Just off the main high street you'll find Timepiece the club (by Natwest cash point incidently) which does alright Indie nights on a Friday night and i've never been on a Saturday! Quite an alright club, though like all in Exeter quite small. Bar downstairs too which is free to get in. The least chavvy of all the clubs in exeter i'd have said. Then if you carry on down the high street the bars worth mentioning are Hogs Head (quite nice but expensive) and Walkabout (often some nice girlies in there in my experience). There are some other pubs including an alright underground one next to the Tesco Metro, but those 2 are my favs.

There's a really nice new (none-smoking) wetherspoons towards the Quay area (in an old church), which is where you'll find the other 2 main clubs in Ex, Volts and 'Warehouse Boxes and Boogies'. I think Volts will be shut, not sure. Anyway, Warehouse is the best club (it's called WBB because of having 3 rooms, cheese/trance/R&B) even though at the weekend it will be pretty chavvy. Those 2 clubs are right down on the Quay, if you head that way you can't miss 'em. Also next to Warehouse is another fairly nice cocktail type bar (i'm told though never been there) and i've forgotton the name. Also there's another pub down by the Quay which looks quite nice but again i've never been. There's a bowling alley round the back of the Quay which is good fun and has a bar if you're interested btw. (I enjoy getting lashed whilst trying to bowl )

The Warehouse (WBB) from my experience is just full of teenagers. Might be what you're looking for... I don't know?

Last time I went to Arena it was shite. Timepiece is ok. Other than that I don't know. My 'clubbing' years finished a long time ago - plus I was usuall too pished to know a good club from a bad one).

There are some good pubs, but it all depends on what you want. If you're in and around the city centre then certainly the 'Hogs Head' and 'Walkabout' are bustling and popular at the weekends. I've not been in the new Wetherspoons yet, but the old one by the Uni (The Imperial) is huge and cheap (but full of students - sorry Rob F).

Some of the clubbing hardcore within my group would spend the first part of the evening in Exeter, then travel down to Torquay for the clubs, which are very lively on a Friday/Saturday night!

I know the old one intimately, as i lived 5 minutes away from it last year! Which is why i didn't reccomend it - mega place to get pished on the cheap, but that's hardly what a stag do is about. The new one is very different, if anything it's a bit posh (maybe because of the no smoking?) but it's lovely to sit in there or in the beer garden with a nice pint of Kronie Blanc in the chilled glass. Food is nice there too

I'd prolly go with Timepiece if you're going to stay in Exeter. I would be tempted to reccomend he takes a boat down the river and does the Topsham Ten (ten pubs in a little village) then get a taxi back! 1 drink every half an hour and bobs yer auntys live in lover....

Ahhh Timepiece - I remember that place rather well, all tye dye, stone roses and Nirvana back in the day - good nights out there when I was still at school!

Had an awesome time in Exeter. Ended up going to a few pubs in the center just down from the station (ship?) then on to timepiece. Had a really good night in there, probably helped by the fact we were dressed as pirates eventually tucked up in bed by 7am

Also went to the millenium falcon pub (weatherspoons) near the Uni on serveral occasions

All in all Exeter is a top place, soooooooo much totty !

That'll be the students, the local lasses are somewhat more pikey/pregnant/far too young. Warehouse is a terrible, terrible place - I kept thinking that every Thursday night for 4years while I was at Exeter Uni.

Ringpiece bar always used to have a great selection of whiskys for not a lot of cash, and I did like the bar at the Southgate hotel too. The vic does the cheapest, mankiest steaks for £4, loverly.



I realise you've already been and done, I'm just wallowing in nostalgia for a minute...
