Whats it like,
style and no substance, or ....
main things i am interested in is a good calander function not fussed on camera and stuff like that.
i tend to use the phone as a basic pda with reminders for meetings, so what are the alrams on it like, used to using a nokia 6230 at the moment but want the smaller option and dont want to go with a big pda size phone.

Not sure about the v3 but i've just upgraded my 6230 to the 6230i and its well worth it!
I find that it doesn't respond very quickly a lot of the time when going through the functions, but most of the time its fine. The only other complaint is that the alarm doesn't allow you to set it to go off on monday-friday, but not at the weekend like my old Samsung did. Instead each night you have to set it.
Otherwise its nice not to carry around a bulky phone in your pocket.

Got one. Good phone. Battery good, reception fine, keep it in my pocket with keys and change and it's survived nine months or so, so far. I've stopped using it for email etc. after finding out how much it costs, but at a push you can use it for that, or with a bluetooth pda to get online. I don't use the calendar functions. The user interface is ok, not the fastest in the world, but certainly functional.
I must be odd, I upgraded my phone and mr C_G's to V3's, I played around with his (phone!) and didn't get on with it at all. I'm not one for chatting on the 'phone, so I use text quite a lot - couldn't get along with the Motorola o/s. The battery life seems really poor in comparison to my Nokia 6230. So, my V3 is still in the sealed box it arrived in, soon to be sold on eBay.

Nope, I'm in your gang too.
I had one for a few months and ended up going back to my old T610.
Horrible phone.
Well actually, the phone is quite smart, its the bloody software and interface that is terrible.
Hey Mark,
I love mine. The style and build quality is great. The only thing that I would wish for that it doesn't have, is the ability to syncronise with Outlook. You can syncronise with your PC, but to a Motorola database only.
It has stereo output, so ringtones are reproduced very well, but it has a limited memory due to no SD card slot (what do you expect from a phone that is so slim).
I would personally advise against the black version, as I imagine that every scratch will reveal a streak of silver, but other than that, go for it.

V3 is a bit poo to be honest.
You can sync with Outlook for the calendar function but it requires an upgrade to the PC software that costs (e-mule it if you want to test). The problem is that the sync does not work and you end up with duplicate entries all over the show. The USB connection and drivers are woefully bad also.
It is entirely style over substance as it is so badly hindered by its infuriating software. No real thought has gone into this and it has not evolved much from previous Motorolas.
Bluetooth is next to incomprehensible to get operating reliably and the camera is shite.
It also gets dirty quickly, and has an annoying habit of superimposing the shape of the keypad in filth on the screen when you close it.
As far as the keypad goes it looks pretty but is a nightmare to use if you don’t have sturdy fingernails.
Its ring and vibrate functions are not loud enough and it has a worrying tendency to click the two outer buttons required to set it to silent when in your pocket. This means I keep missing fecking calls!
Then we have its incessant beeping reminding you of everything from missed calls, voicemail, emial, sms messages, low battery and calendar entries. If these are not individually dealt with it drives you insane.
Then we have the crappy performance in e-mail. You could type an entire sentence and it will not show on screen for another 5 seconds. It. Is. Just. So. Slow.
One the good side though, it slips into the pocket almost unnoticed and it does look very cool.

Yep, I'd agree with all of that.

I sync to iSync on the mac no problems at all (and thats free) so if you have a Mac, this isn't a problem.
True about the beeping though - a symptom of all Motorola phones!

I'm selling a brand new one if you're interested, otherwise it is going on eBay. As much as I would love to give it to the trackdemon charity, I will be looking for some cash for it!

Just set the reminder in the ring style detail menu to be nothing and they go away...
