Unfortunately petty thieves are so crap today because the police response is even crapper.

The scrotes have little to fear from being caught.

perhaps someone had nicked the same piece of their bike, very odd nonetheless and bl00dy irritating. BTW how did you get home?

Sympathies. My Sister had her chain stolen years ago! Not as bad as she could freewheel home, but still, Chains and Stems?

More than likely done for irritation.

It's something for them to do, isn't it?

What's more annoying and in the same vein is those horrible people who nick off your car to replace on theirs (I assume)...

a) dust caps off your tyres (especially cool metal ones)

b) those little yellow / black covers for the screws on your number plates.

Both of these have been nicked off my cars in the past - stinking people.

If they weren't petty thieves they'd be master criminals. It's all about the job description.

A mate was telling me yesterday how there was a suspicious looking kid wandering around the street where his mum lives. His mum spotted the kid, carrying a screwdriver, going from house to house, walking up the front path and peering into front windows. This was in the middle of the afternoon and she doesn't live in a quiet, remote area of the village. She rang the police and reported it. No sooner had she put the phone down after being reassured that someone would be around soon to have a look, the kid picked up a house-brick from a garden, threw it straight through the front window, reached in and legged it with a laptop.

Not exactly the behaviour of someone in fear of being caught.

Still, they've just had a new speed camera installed on a nearby street so providing he runs fast enough and triggers it they should stand a good chance of getting the bastard....

Screw-on stubby aerials are another favourite.

Forgive me for being cynical Mr. Solicitor Man, but when someone claims to be working until 1am every day but are constantly on PH, it make me think: hmmmm, strange?

I guess the tw@ gene runs stronger in some people. It strikes me as the sort of thing done just to (i) fill in some time and (ii) p!ss someone off. I shouldn't worry, the scrote's probably so stupid he'll start cutting his toenails with a scythe before long

I have a great story about crap criminals and it is true.

A friend of mine got caught up in something. Trouble was he was black, drove a 3series with 17s or 18s long before big wheels became fashionable, and dressed like a drug dealer. So of course in the eyes of the law he was innocent until proven guilty. In fact it was his brother and sister who were guilty as sin, but he was okay.

Made no difference, he got to serve nearly a year on remand.

Anyway, went to see him once every couple of weeks, and I remember sitting in the waiting room just outside the area where you see the inmate.

Most of the room had been called through, which just left me (little white guy) and 3 black girlfriends/wives/mistresses. Anyway, the ladies weren't the brightest in the pack, and nor were their fellas apparently. So they got chatting.

The question when waiting in a waiting room in a prison when you want to break the ice is "Whats yours in for?".

Anyway, said ladies asked the questions.

The first one replied "hes in for throwing a brick through our neighbours window - he was told by the police the last time not to do it again or he'll be nicked".

The second one replied "mine mugged an old lady. silly sod only managed to get £5 and then got caught running away."

Third one replied "mine was trying to break into some warehouse, but wasn't very good and got caught before he got in".

And then they turned to me, who was trying not to laugh at some of the dumb things these guys had been up to. I had great pleasure in replying (truthfully):

"Mines in for a £4m conspiracy to defraud".

The look from the ladies was priceless There is a pecking order in the waiting rooms. I was now a god

Talking of "thick as thieves", years ago an old college friend had a passion for nicking motorbikes. Now he was thick.

Apparently, at one particular trial, the court was in hysterics as the policeman told his story: "I was in my panda car at 11pm parked in a layby and was enjoying a coffee and a kebab. As I was eating I saw a motorbike coming down the road - which suddenly turned off its headlight. I followed the bike in case the rider didn't know the light had gone off, because there were many street lights illuminating the road. I pulled the bike over, and asked the rider why the lights were off, expecting him to say either 'I didn't know' or 'the bulb has blowne'. However, the rider said 'I was hoping you wouldn't see me' and immediately confessed to stealing the motorcycle.

On the subject of your stem... They come in slightly different sizes but as you say yours is quite old I would suggest just banging it into the local bike shop and they should be able to fit a stem in about 2 minutes for you for a bout a tenner I would think.

and then you'd sue the train company because there were no warning notices on the roof of the train tell you not to fight on the roof.

Someone once broke into my Golf and all they did was pull out the wire for the LED which flashes when the immobiliser is armed. They didn't even take my stereo or CDs which were in the car!

Or maybe they just didn't like my taste in music...

I think its because of the increasing use of air-conditioning and the lack of opening windows. Also the electric cables might be causing a problem. Steam trains used to go faster and you could be entertained by a good fight on the roof as well.

No, the cables just make it more interesting, as each guy tries to get the other guy zapped while trying not to get zapped himself.

I've posted this one in the past, but I'm dragging it out again

Some scrote broke in to our shed (which opens on to an alley) - he stole our two 20 year old bikes.

Also in the shed was a full cannister of patio gas and a fridge full of champagne and Sancerre. Any other item would surely have earnt more cash...
