Hand built wooden conservatories

I have a bizare porch thingy about 3.5m by 3.5m and the roof is on it's last legs. I was thinking about having it replaced with a conservatory/orangery affair up to about 1 and a half stories, but hate UPVC as it wouldn't fit in with the house which is sandstone and about 250 years old. It would mean cutting into an existing tiled roof so it isn't a job for off-the-shelf conservatory erectors I don't think. Foundations, heating, electrics and flooring are there.

Has anyone had a wooden conservatory bulit, and how do they compare price wise to off-the-shelf UPVC or wooden jobbies? Where did you source the contractor (conservatory builder, joiner etc). Was thinking I get an architect in because I have seen some splendid green oak and glass affairs.

But as far as architects, green oak and glass goes, it sounds the right thing for your property. A friend of mine has just had such a thing built, I will try and get some details for you.

We had a 4m x 5m one put in by a company called Amdega about 3 years ago. Two guys built it in situ over about 4 weeks, after the foundations were put in. Still looks brand new. In a different quality league to the off-the-shelf sort, but in a TOTALLY different price leaque too. I'm still walking with a squint.

Lol working, since burglary of our unit etc been trying to get business back off the ground for the second time - thought i would log back on over a couple of large malts, always read but very rarely post these days...

My own fault we were seriously underinsured for the loss, cost me a significant chunk from my own pocket to keep business running, but hey we are still here and dont intend to quit now
