Do we have to finance and house these people?

I'm pretty sure that if I went to certain Islamic countries and started bad mouthing their people and overtly praising Blair and Bush, then I'd expect a damn good hiding. I certainly wouldn't be expecting the population to house and feed me. I'd anticipate deportation at best - but probably imprisonment (or worse).
That article strikes me as extremely devisive. Rather like asking someone if they beat their wife, then printing a headline saying "X denies beating their wife"
The article is written in such a way as to engage an emotive opinion without giving you enough information to form an objective opinion (if you see what I mean).

Nasty foreigners. Shouldn't have any rights I say. Chuck'em back where they came from. Britain was far better off when it was run by its original imhabitants.
(That would be back in the Bronze Age I think).
That's very helpful
For your information I am in favour of a sensible immigration policy that favours skilled workers.
I am not in favour of unmanaged mass migration through the asylum system, and I am particularly not in favour of this country not being able to deport dangerous foreigners.

But what has that got to do with the article in question? Unless I missed something, there is no mention of the cleric being an assylum seeker.

Just forcibly export all the illegals (3million of them) and then allow only people in who are willing to positively join OUR country (not set up ghettos of foreigners who actively abuse our system). This is done successfully by the US, Canada, Australia, NZ etc so why the FCKK! can't we?????

It says he entered the country 20 years ago, under the government of that bleeding heart liberal Maggie Thatcher. If you actually read what he is quoted as saying, some of it makes sense.

Absolutely! Which is why I attacked the article as it buries the actual comments at the bottom, long after most people have stopped reading because their heads exploded.

In regards to immigration I believe we need to follow a strict cost benefit analysis. This is a crowded island if we let someone in it should only be if it improves our society and economy.
Unskilled migrants at best have a very small net benefit to the economy, they don't earn much and they will consume public services over their lifetimes. Their children tend to have the worst records of joblessness and crime of any section of society.
Skilled migrants both have a large net contribution and their children often enter the professions in a larger proportion than the 'native' population.
I think we need clear thinking on this subject.
I am just very wary of "anti-imigrant" rants.
I think it is about time this debate matured a bit and people stopped flying off the handle every time the topic of asylum, imigration and foreigners crops up.
I wonder how many UK based posters on PH were actually born in the UK?
I wasn't for a start.

Omar stood for a group until October 2004 called Al-Muhajiroun as you probably already know.
This is a group that wants an Islamic world which would entail Islamic law and practises. They want everyone in the world to become a Muslim which according to the Koran is a one way decision. You can become a Muslim - you can never stop being a Muslim without fear of reprisals in the form of death. The group also believes that to "Vote is to Sin" and that "Freedom of Speech Is EVIL" if I remember the plackards correctly.
Which one of these statements above make sense?
Now, either Omar agrees with these principles - or he joined the wrong group.
I saw some (probably carefully chosen) television footage of the UK islamic youth. They were explaining why some of their peers might have carried out terrorist atrocities.
Essentially he said;
"Countries like the UK are attacking our countries."

After the bombings I was quite suprised at how grown up the media were being about things. They appear to have run out of proper news and gone back into full-on shit stirring mode.
Have you seen the front page of the Sun today?
