If talking about the "spirit" of the book, surely the OL songs are a pre-requisite of the film, as they give the moral lessons throughout?

You have to have the disturbing O-L songs in - the book is a bit well weird (but good)

Depp is at least more visually appealing than the last WW

Does the film cross the divide and become one of those for both children and adults?

Most Burton films would be greatly improved by actually having a story. There are some exeptions (Very few) but generally cack.

In the original film, the first shot of Gene Wilder showed him with a limp, resting on a cane. He then throws away the cane and performs a forward roll/somersault movement. According to Gene Wilder, this was an attempt to show the "darker" side of Willy Wonka, in that he couldn't always be trusted.

There is a slightly dark side to most of Roald Dahl's work.

I am looking forward to this version, as a child it was one of my favourites.

I'm seeing it this afternoon with my wife and son.

I'm quite looking forward to it as I'm a fan of Tim Burton's work and also rate Johnny Depp.
