Ferry to France - Advice please

Hi All, Once again I turn to the PH massive (!) to tap into the Borg-like collective wisdom...

I'm looking to visit Brittany for a week / 10 days at the end of September. We are borrowing a relative's house, and I am looking for the cheapest ferry to get us there.

My thoughts having seen the cost of Portsmouth - Caen :yikes: is Dover - Calais and drive down (yes its a few hours more, but the cost difference is £290)

The question is, is there one site that I can enter dates to and it will compare ferry routes and offer different destinations & prices, rather than just looking at Calais, etc.

Or does anyone have any recommendations...

try hoverspeed, i was looking at some prices yesterday and for trips aug. onwards it was coming up at less than £50 return

Speedferries is a long way from Brittany though. Have a look at Transmanche - they go Newhaven to Dieppe and were charging £60 a car when we booked with them for Le Mans.

I personally use Brittany Ferries. They do a great overnight service from Portsmouth to St Malo, and when you phone them, a person answers, and this person isn't in India...

Needed to get to France in an emergency, not knowing when I would return. After 30 minutes on hold with P&O being told repeatedly to use their website (which wasn't working), I phoned Brittany and a person answered in 2 rings. Sorted me out a treat.

Coming back to the UK in September to pick up my car and drive it back down France and Hoverspeed are looking the best, dead cheap, although as I said, thats for the middle to end of September.

Of course, my decision is mainly based on that its really fast, really pointy looking and has a bloody great union jack painted on it.

Speedferries again.

I've used them for the last 2 years when talking the car abroad and found them excellent both times.

Any firm where the CEO rolls up his sleeves and serves coffee & drinks to the customers is fine by me.

Don't know of any ferries that will take houses, I think only mobile homes are allowed on board.

I vote for speed ferrys to

Norfolk line is worth a punt if you cant get a booking else where ,they only sail to Dunkirk though so its another 20 mins on your journy time
