I had a go on a tandem with a mate of mine at the weekend. We are both reasonably fit and experienced cyclists, so 38.9 mph was achievable on the flat and 48 mph down a bit of a hill. Getting back up it was not so easy though, and we were a bit wobbly when starting off. Great fun, anyone else ridden them much ?

I've dabbled but ended up having to do all the peddaling when with the missus & arguing over which route to take with my mate (he's a typical back seat driver. Despite never having ridden off road before decided that he knew the best lines on a few hair raising descents). Lots of fun though & the road bikes really shift!

Blimey, respect. We were having a bit of trouble setting off up a steepish hill, and speculating how hard a mountian bike tandem must be. You are right though, road tandems really shift once you get going.

I would never get on a tandem...can't stand the idea of how little control the individual rider has, and how unmanoeuvrable they are in the presence of other traffic. Fear inducing things!
