Okay so I spent the whole of yesterday afternoon on the ride on mowing my lawn and the field for the jeep yesterday in my shorts. Just the usual few scratches and sunburn on the top of my legs (yes I know I should have put on a higher factor sun cream)
Then after my shower my right leg started to itch. Just a few bites I thought. Bit more itching this morning but nothing to worry about. Now my right lower leg is twice the size of the left :yikes:
So if any of you see a mozzie, horsefly, or indeed any sort of flying insect please :shoot: it, kill it maim it. It is officially open season. The skin has stretched so much I can feel it. Horrible little flying gits!!!

The real trick is to get them to stay still long enough to model them in glass.
Seriously though I sleep with a mosquito net over the bed as I leave the windows open when I go to sleep. Really cheap, I got mine from Ikea and I haven’t been bitten since using it, usually they love a bit of ankle but not any more.
There are numerous sprays and creams that you can rub on your legs when walking around

There are some really nasty little mosquitos around this year. I had 2 bites about 4 weeks ago that produced nasty local swellings that took ages to go - can still see the marks. AND really felt the the thing as the probe wents in - both died at the time I reckon!
Eldest daught had 4 bites and swollen legs for about a week.
Then last week I spent an hour in the evening in shortsb at dusk and got 2 more bites. One on the foot just like the first 2 - large mark but that's about it. One on the back of the knee in the joint spread rapidly, presented the same symptoms as yours and now looks like it is bruising up nicely.
Time for drastic action I think. Anyone know where I can get some DDT?
As we were being shown around our room on arrival at our hotel on St Lucia a couple of years ago, the manager extolled the virtues of being able to sleep in the open air. The "room" was a biggish chalet on stilts on the hillside with wooden louvres all roudn instead of walls. When I asked whether sleeping with the louvres open wouldn't expose us to mosquitoes, he said that the yellow bulbs in the room were specially designed to repel mosquitoes, so we shouldn't worry.
I had 36 bites the next morning. I just kept discovering new itches throughout the day. The only relief came when I was in the water, so I went for three dives that day.
From then on, we slept with a mosquito net. The little buggers were so voracious that we would find tens of them dead on the net each morning where they had tried to reach us through the net and become stuck.
It's a fantastic hotel though with great food and a brilliant bunch of diving guys. Just don't listen to the manager on the subject of mosquitoes.

Not hogweed is it? I had massive blisters come up on my left leg after literally touching it having had some scratches on the leg anyway, I thought it was from when I was welding the other day (in shorts). The blisters have popped and now I have holes in my leg which are literally raw meat! I'd never realised it but hogweed and broken skin is an absolutely horrendous combination.
