i was on a cycling event for charity yesterday and the road manners displayed by many of the other cyclists was appalling.

they showed a total lack of regard for any other road user around, for instance cycling 4 abreast down one road. the councils have put those mini islands everywhere to make it near on impossible for drivers to pass safely - not that the cyclists cared too much as they all wore helmets which obviously extended all over their bodies like the armour on "Dune".

i even had a go at my sister for riding next to me on a fairly busy road. "ffs girl do you want to ride in the middle of busy road?". total indifference to drivers.

Oh come on you lot - this is ridiculous, and the sort of thing that gives us car entusiasts a bad name.

Road tax for bikes? They don't pollute, and they cause negligible (if any) wear to road surfaces.

Cyclists as a selfish group? Undoubtedly some are. But plenty are not. Generalisations are frankly ridiculous.

I drive two cars, and ride a push bike. In both incarnations of road users I have seen cyclists who ask to be killed and drivers who should be locked up for inrtimidation. No-one is without blame. A little maturity from both sides would go a long way...
