Dumb (?) Passport Question

My passport expires in November and I've booked a long weekend in Amsterdam (in September) with my 3 brothers-in-law :evil:

Now, I've been told that I may not be able to travel because my passport has less than 6 months validity. :confused: Is that true???

Please, please help me out as the missus is hassling me about a trip to Paris too. I tried the search function but didn't come up with an answer.

Tghis is bollox as Amsterdam is EU, it's only 3rd world countries who want 6 month validity, oh and the US!

I think that's correct - most travel is conditional on having 6 months validty on a passport.

Probably because you could legitimately stay somewhere as a visitor for 6 months (but no longer, most likely) and thus it could expire whilst you were out of the county leaving you potentially stranded.

You should be able (IIRC) to travel on your driver's license. (Give the airline a call to check though)

As far as I'm aware you can only fly between Ireland and the UK on any photo ID. After that I think you need a passport despite all being EU.

France, and several other European countries have just re-introduced border controls following last thursday's London attacks.

You can NOT travel outsode of the UK on a driving licence, however a driving licence is Valid ID (with photo) for internal travel.

I can fly to the UK on any photo id, Can you guys not do the reverse? Didn't know that. I only bring my passport to the UK as a just-in-case.

I bow to your greater knowledge with regards to travelling to & from Ireland...never been there.

Anywhere else definitely needs a passport

UK is not a signatory to the Schengen agreement.. hence you need a passport to get into, or out of it to the other EU countries.
Between EU Schengen signatories.. just ID will do..

I've used my Company badge to get in and out of Dublin.

What is annoying though .... I needed my [Irish] passport to check in to my hotel - even though it was 'on account' with the company and booked weeks before (and having stayed there many times before)!
