My son took a coach trip to France overnight last night - several parents rang the school wondering about safety - but I decided to keep it in proportion. I realise going round the M25 is hardly a tube in central London, but it did cross my mind that if the objective was transport disruption, a bomb on a eurotunnel train would be a pretty good idea.

But, at some point you have to trust the security services, and your instincts. It is probably more likely that the terrorists are on the train getting out, not bombing it to prevent easy escape!

Life goes on. Keep it in proportion.

Absolutely, but one of the saddest things you will see (even now) if you are in Lockerbie is a certain generation of people who still freeze if a low flying plane goes over.

Been out and about in central London today, travelling by tube and taxi. No problems on my routes, lots of BiB everywhere and tubes were pretty empty so I am sure your friend will be fine.

Also think of the numbers. How big is the centre of London? 20 miles up and 20 miles acrossish? That's 400 square miles. Now say a bomb affects an area of 500 square metres. That's 0.002 square miles. So the prob of being at the site of the explosion is approx 1 in 200000. Being there at the same time as a bomb boosts that number up BIG time to lottery sized numbers (too dumb to work it out at the mo). So the question is: are you feeling lucky?

Thanks. One thing a lot of friends I have spoken to have said is that everybody is looking at everyone else very suspiciously. I know that will pass and mistrust is awful, but I hope the vigilance remains.

I dunno how you can say that mate really. They certainly weren't well away after the first bomb went off were they?

It's nice to feel reassured sometimes, but these aren't reassuring times in my opinion.
