Following yesterdays events I have made a personal decision which I would like to encourage others to adopt also:
I am going to stop calling AlQuaeda (SP) and those like them, Muslim Terrorists.
Quite simply, they are not Muslims, they are just criminals.
Allowing them to be called and to call themselves Muslims bestows a false "legitimacy" on their actions as they link their barbaric aims to the pain and frustrations of a wider and usually peaceful community.
You see, AQ would love you to see them as Muslims, because Islam is a religion that encourages people to identify with each other on a religious rather than national (place of birth) basis. If AQ can get you to attack them as Muslims (rather than as the criminals they really are) , then they can portray your attacks as being against the wider Muslim community. In that way they influence the vulnerable and the hot heads alike.

As soon as you break this false link you see things much more clearly.

Muslims are not terrorists. AQ are not Muslims, whatever they may say.
Lets show the British Muslim community that they have NOTHING to fear from the rest of us as a result of yesterdays actions by AQ. In doing so, we can demonstrate the true power and resolve of our nation, our community, our way of life more clearly than any other action we could take.

I think thats the most sensible post on PH all day. But, and its a big but, I want that echoed throughout the muslim community in this country, and the way to do that is collective condemnation from the muslim leaders in this country.

Hang on a minute. I accept that just because B (Al'Qaeda) is a subset of A (Muslims), it doesn't mean that A=B. However, it doesn't stop B being a subset of A. Like it or not, these people ARE Muslims, and there are various brands of Islam, just like there are various brands of Christianity. Some are nastier than others.

Give us credit for being able to sort our "A"s from our "B"s

I'm sorry - but we have the goverment to blame for this countries, quite blatant, racism...

When the prime minister goes on TV, and without any facts, says these are the actions of 'Muslim Extremists' that sets a very bad example for the country..

Personally, i dont even think it was Al Quedia - considering their other attacks were big, brutal, and bloody displays of disregard for human life...

Whereas this attack, was very precise, and achieved 2 very clear goals..
1. It stopped Central London for just 1 day
2. It took talks at the G8 summit away from ending 3rd world debt..

Imagine somebody coming on here and saying that all sports cars are rubbish because they have driven a Mk4 Golf GTi and didn't like it.
I know this sounds very trivial, but imagine the amount of grief they would get for saying something like that on here.
Saying that all Muslims are terrorists is a petty and small minded view that shouldn't be harboured by anybody.

I have to agree. Muslims are not terrorists. AQ being Muslims or not I find irrelevant.
I don't remember the IRA being referred to as Christian Extremists or Catholic Terrorists, do you?
So why do we hang the religious epithet on to AQ?
Suits the wests agenda I think.

And this will be easier for them if they don't feel alienated by the rest of us.

The IRA never start their statements with "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, etc..."

We can all understand that not all Muslims are terrorists. We're smart enough to work this out for ourselves. However, Al'Qaeda are an Islmaic terrorist group. Let's not mince words. They simply are.

well said andy.

this is so important for two main reasons.

1) the strategy behind this attack seems totally idiotic. The only thing they could achieve is to create divisions from the reactions this might bring.
They want Britain to react militarily, and they want muslims to become very defensive...all creating more terrorists

2)the real fight against these people will now come from the muslims themselves. They must tip off the police, infiltrate, and destroy these groups from within.

Don't forget they declared Jihad - Holy War - on the West. So religion - their's at least - does come into it a teensy bit I think. Of course they don't represent your average muslim any more than the IRA represent your typical christian, but they've been gagging to destroy us (the West) since the Crusades. Is it because their extreme religion forces them to live in the stone age and they want to destroy what they can't have?

I'd be interested to hear why you think that is, given the smooth integration of various other communities?

Exactly right. I suspect that once he names of the poor victims are released it won't all be John Smith Esq (if you get my meaning) and this should and I hope will strengthen their resolve to do so.

Nope sorry. Islam is a religion of pease and support. At no point does it accept or promote terrorism. The fact that some of the terrorists are muslim is used as a tool by whoever warped thier minds enough to comit these crimes.

Did you examin religion so very closely when he IRA were blowing up parts of London.

I think you should look at the causes of "fundamentalism" be it in a christian country or otherwise.

I think we should all stop calling them AlQuaeda, we should call them something like the fluffy bunnies.
