Difficult Words To Pronounce

There are a few Chavs round here who have difficulty with the following words

Work, Job, Condom etc

Local news peeps; Meopham pronounced Meofam, should be pronounced Mepam, and Wrotham pronounced rotham, should be pronounced rootam, and they are local. My own nemisis is chrysanthemum or whatever. Stupid name for a flower anyway. Oh, and any word in the English language after a few bevvies.

Had various howlers from folks across the pond. One that stands out was checking on to a hotel in San Diego where they had Edinburgh spelled as 'EDNEBRO'. I guess if you say it fast enough it sounds roughly correct

Had another long discussion with a bloke in San Franciso who couldn't get to grips with the distance/flight times from Scotland. Eventually I worked out he thought Scotland was an island just off the east coast of Canada. I don't think I ever did convince him that that was actually Nova Scotia, and Nova Scotia and Scotland were actually 2 different places separated by the Atlantic.

Still, they could do worse that trying to pronounce Kirkcudbright or Milngavie.

On Radio 2 a couple of years ago, some british guy was touring Scotland, and stopped off at "Burntisland" which he pronounced "Burnt - tis - land" and then went on inland from Aberdeen to "Banchory" which he pronounced "Ban-cory"
