Frankly I'd rather it was spent on all of it - The constant rubbish about "we'll reduce your taxes but deliver more public services" is the biggest lie of our time.

I hope I'm wrong - but experience in my life has taught me that the French are experts at "underhand" tactics which ensure these things always go their way.

Funny how there's always money for hospitals, which are only any use if you work in the health industry [ not many of us] or are sick [ not very often for most of us], but there is never any money for new roads, which we all use everyday and we *all* rely on for our goods and services.
I'll let you guess which one is the bigger vote winner.
Having said that, I think Paris should get it. They have real facilities which have been inspected.
London has a plan, a presentation and a dream. A virtual candidate, in other words. Guess who's going to have to stump up for all the new building that the London bid proposes ?

It wil be a national burden and bear in mind that every country that has hosted an Olympic Games has been in deficit at the close.
One thing that people tend to forget is that there's two events, firstly the main games followed on by the Paralympics which increases the cost as everything has to (and should it) comply with the DDA regs.

But that's not the point. Sport of this sort isn't supposed to be profit making. You put money in, and out comes a fantastic experience for thousands of people, and inspiration to achievement for many others.
The Dome was £900M. I expect the Olympics will cost 10x that, all for a few medals that will be quickly forgotten. There are many better causes that the money could be spent on: pensions, transport, schools, cutting NHS waiting lists etc etc - or of course you could simply keep taxes low, so that people have more money so they have a better standard of living.

Also I've spent the morning chatting to a colleague who is originally from Sydney and as far as he is concerned having the Olympics there has had a fantastic effect, from improved sports / recreation facilities, improved transport links across the city and also an increase in tourists and the money they bring.
Well done to the bid team ... now, how do I get tickets to the good events?
NO NO NO!! didn't want London to get it as scumbag Livingstone and his bumboy pal bLIAR will both take the credit for something they have not done and don't deserve.
My vote was for Madrid... but we have to thank Chirac for his comments which I am sure tipped the votes Londons way......
I'm sure that more Domes and more transport ferkups will be the result of this....Just hope the games actually take place and that the stadia and the transport will be built on time, but hell, well done the people who did all the hard work for the bid, they deserve a cheer!
