OH Dear. Just saw it for the first time last night. The one with the Morris Minor.
Oh Dear. The car was actually kinda cool, very much in the vein of the US series, but they didn't show nearly enough about the car. Is that not what the show's about? The first 15 minutes or so were all - look at this pile, it's swingin'! WHAT????? A quick rebuild, give the car away annnnd closing credits.
But that could be excused if it was not for the presenter. Who the :censored: is that guy and who the :censored: does he think he is? Where does he get those words? He's making them up on the spot, surely. What is he? Where'd he come from? Where can we send him?
I remember calls from Ted that the production company wanted nice cars for use in background shots, if anyone goes again, leave the handbrake off and give it a push to get it moving. He's a twat. There was obviously a meeting where people agreed to put this farce on TV. What were they thinking.

Westwood is a tit of the highest order.
I've watched quite a few PMR's and must admit Xzibit is actually quite funny, and the guys from West Coast Customs are a laugh too. Not exactly into this gang-star malarky, but the show is entertaining (IMHO) and doesn't involve any brain power.
By contrast I watched both the PMR UK shows on MTV last night. I've no idea if that's how Westwood usually talks, but he looked, and acted (and spoke) like a complete wanabee. Jamie and his team seem just as talented as the West Coast lot and I've got a light of time for their craft - even if it's not going anywhere near anything I own.

Think I'm coming from a slightly different perspective here, but I'm a big fan of Tim Westwood. Sure he might be the son of a vicar but in his 'real job' he is a legend. One of the major players in Hip Hop and Rap music he managed to cross over a huge stereotype (see comments above) to earn the respect and admiration of many leading lights in the rap scene in the US.
He's been DJing for years now, before Rap went down the pan and became too involved in money and wealth for it's own good.
As for the presenting skills, not sure if he is the right fit. He certainly knows his cars and ICE installs etc etc, I worked with him at my old job a few years back and his truck is amazing. Plus he is a very down to earth. But I don't think he can cross over into the sort of audience who would use this forum and watch Top Gear for example.

i know he's done some great stuff music critic wise....but I dont think that PmR is a 'Top Gear' audience show - The US show is fantastic. but you need to be American to carry of being very excitable and not look a nob. And without the screaming customer and very funny West Coast guys it just doesnt work. Tim Westwood was a legend when I was 12. Im now 30. the music might survive, but he aint down with the kids, Im sorry.
I'd agree, I don't think he would work with the Top Gear audience at all, and I don't think it's aimed at that audience, which is the point the original post missed I think. But I still have a lot of respect for him, not that I think he is any good anymore.
I love the US version, and think it would be great see Xzibit front our version of it, I'd think he's take on what us Brits and our cars are like would be very funny!

Strangely, plenty of people get shot every day without being mentally tranformed into black gangsters.
Blah blah blah he's done loads for hip hop in the UK. He's done shit compared to, say, what John Peel did for indie and unknowns but you never saw him affecting a yoof accent and dressing like a 12 year-old kid.

If they drop the West Coast Customs "effect" it'd make a good program I rekon.
That Westwood just needs to loose the whole attitude, and just be a normal person. If he can't, sack him.

Westwood and the idea that this needs to be a complete clone of the US version is what will make this flop. Apart from that I quite enjoyed it.
Perhaps a slightly more aspirational car next time too, like an old Capri with a 3.0 Essex lump

My point exactly about stereotypes.
Sure his impact on music isn't as big as John Peel's, but with it never would be because he deals in a very small market. In terms of introducing a genre of music to this country he is unsurpassed.
