Chamonix

Just returned from a stop over in Chamonix (France), been there a couple of times before and we have enjoyed some great mountain biking on their marked routes, but have never been there in the winter.

We have always gone to Jasper in canada for Xmas, but this year we're going to try Chamonix.....

Sooooooo.... knowing quite a few Phers go there I was wondering if anyone knew what they do with these mountain bike routes at christmas, do they keep them open for bikes? or are they X country ski courses only? as we fancy getting some of those spiked snow tyres for the mountain bike and doing some downhill, reckon it could be real fun!

Any other pointers on the winter activities appreciated :)

Ooo, that sounds fun PV. Are you a snowboarder or a skier? I do a bit of both but haven't skied for 2 year now! Might have to strap them back on this winter. Sorry, I have never been to Chamonix (Italy, Swizterland and Whistler for me normally).

there all 6ft down under the snow!!! i guess they are turned into XC ski trails

Pleeeeez D- Mike, you've seen my GPL driving, Snowboarder of course 3 times but feels pretty natural, seen scandys doing downhill mountain bike racing and thought maybe.... but alas by the sounds of it, not a french thing have to find something similarly crazee, you a boarder then?

off to see war of worlds now, maybe bak in time for a race l8r?

all the routes are very well marked and are classed in the same way as european ski runs, green, blue, yellow, red etc, longest red rum is about 20kms and quite severe.
