Microsoft adverts on telly

Am I the only one who finds Microsoft adverts something of an insult to my intelligence? All this business about 'we see the potential of your kids'. So all of a sudden MS is a charitable organisation who's prime concern is our kids' potential - I don't think so. Why don't they be 'refreshingly honest' and say 'we've got the software monopoly, and if you want your kids to succeed commercially, you'd better buy our product.

In related news, here in South Africa they've been given the informal "dinosaur" award by the advertising fraternity for being completely out of touch with their target market... Sounds like they're both arrogant and ignorant. Doesn't matter a jot though, until their monopoly is rent asunder.

They are probably combating the cooler image that Apple have always had. Music and education have always been major markets for Apple and as they gain a larger market share Microsoft are going to have to fight on their core markets.

What about that IBM ad with the girl 'from a farm in china' who speaks with a broad american accent. Terrible.
In reality a girl from a farm in China would probably be lucky to speak Mandarin, more likely a regional dialect. She probably wouldnt even have seen a computer unless she was in a factory making parts for it. Not to mention any online courses cost money and you need a computer to use them and most are in english AND the chinese have strict controls on their internet content. I mean who the hell are the trying to fool?
