Help! Car parked opposite drive, plan of action?

Hi All,

Got a small problem.

I live in a cul-de-sac and a car has decided to park opposite my drive and make it bloody hard for me to get my car out. The car does not belong to anyone on the street - we think its someone a few streets away who wont want the car for a few weeks so has dumped it there for a few weeks.

Its been there for about a month and has not moved.

If it was parked 3metres up or down the road it would only be annoying in the sense that you do want to look outside and see a battered Clio all day do you?!

What to do?

Police dont want to know - its not stolen and its taxed.

Can I find out the address of the owner through HPI?

Any ideas?

Call the local chavs to see if they can get the doors open, hotwire the engine and move it?

That's how we get the dragster in and out of the pits, so I'd recommend that manouvere (sp!?!?).. amazing how easy it is to move a car once it's up on a trolley jack!

Have you tried your local council. If the car is causing you an obstruction, and also affecting parking in your area, they MIGHT help. They probably won't, but I'd give it a try.

I believe DVLA will sell you the registered keeper's details for a few quid if you have a good reason for wanting them.

Dunno if your problem qualifies though.

You could always run up a quick leaflet on your computer, stating the registration number of the car and explaining that it's causing an obstruction, and post a few through your neighbours doors.

Legal solutions my arse. Go the trolley jack method, and if that doesn't work (if its in gear say) then break the window and push it out of the way.

It certainly used to be the case that it was NOT legal to park ANYWHERE on a road as it constituted an obstruction. In relation to which, parked vehicles were supposed to display 'parking lights' - older PHers may remember those daft things that fitted over the door window and showed red to one side and white to the other.
It may well be the case that parking has been decriminalised but I wouldn't count on it.
