For the price of some of the 118 services, you could enjoy a dirty chat with a busty blonde 0906 nympho, probably ask her to look up a number for you whilst your at it.
Whats the cheapest 118 alternative out there when calling from a BT landline, someone must be undercutting the others?

Unfortunately the ones that undercut BT et al do so because they use Indian call centres, which, although most of the time work OK, more often than not suffer from a bad line, and I've had them completely fail to understand my request at times, so you can actually end up on the phone longer - therefore spending more money - than if you'd gone via BT or something.
This has to be a prime example of privatising gone too far. Once there was a single number, IIRC it was 40p, and it always worked.
Now there are - 16? - numbers, they are riddled with hidden charges (some take a percentage of the subsequent call) and on one out of two times I needed to use one, I was given the wrong number.
For business numbers I use Google to find their website. Costs £0.

I only use 118500 because it is basically the same service that was 192 with the same management IIRC.
I used 118118 a couple of times but they gave me the wrong number both times - so effectively charged me for nothing, and wasted my time, and the cost of the subsequent call to the wrong number.

If you have internet access available just go to the BT web site and use the directory enquiry facility. But I guess you really wanted a voice response since you mentioned using a phone.
