What's this bird?

Getting rarer. Beautiful song. Facinating to watch them smash open snails.

I think it's a Songthrush - we have some round here. They sing incredibly complex songs mostly at dusk and sometimes in the morning.

They are perhaps the most musical of garden birds.

He will have a route around your area and will stop to sing from various points to mark his territory.

Thanks guys. It was too dark to see properly and I was thinking nightingale? nightjar? When I saw the photo I thought it looked like a thrush, but didn't know they were so musical and loud. Never heard it before but will know next time!

Fieldfare.


The last two are winter visitors from Scandinavia.

Yep, it's a Song Thrush, I have a pair nesting in the hedge @ the bottom ogf the garden, It's their 2nd brood too.
this isn't to be confused with the Mistle Thrush, which is a much larger bird & is more of a field & countryside dweller rather than a garden bird.

Damn, rumbled. Actually no, I was standing in the garden looking up - the rest is done by a 300mm lens (equivalent to 450mm on the Nikon) and some cropping.
