Please - Help Stop ID Cards!

I've read a lot on here about PHers being strongly opposed to ID cards, just like me.
So, it's time to put your money where your mouth is and get behind the campaign to stop this pointless and expensive infringments on our civil rights:

This gives you the opportunity to stop something that

be expensive and inconvenient
unreliable
forgeable
draw startling parallels with the Nazi 'show me your papers' culture
[b]WILL NOT[/b]
stop terrorism
stop illegal immigration - it hasn't done in other countries where it has been implemented
be the end of the government imposing ever more stringent limitations on our right to privacy and freedom of movement.
Combine ID cards with CCTV (we in the UK are the most watched population in the world), computer facial recognition, satellite tracking of your vehicle and proposals to ban demonstrations around parliament that haven't been approved and tell me we're not living in a police state?....

Er - am I the only person who thinks that ID cards could be bloody useful for combatting benefit fraud etc?
It's not like you have to carry the things - only use them if you want to claim benefits/apply for jobs etc...
I don't claim benefit, why would I need one?(and many other points)
