What's wrong with books then? They come in very useful sometimes.

I used to be well into chart music (up until about 1985 when I grew up). I have the 1982 Guinness Book of Hit Singles which includes all chart entries from 1955 to 1982. However, the Guinness Books are actually based on the Melody Maker charts rather than the charts used by the BBC for their radio shows and Top of the Pops. Up until 1983, these were compiled by The British Market Research Bureau and it is much harder tracking down their historical listings.
