He chose to flee justice, live it up and only return to the UK when his health was failing and his money had run out.

Not sure he should be in a Cat A prison, but definately no release

Whilst I don't think he should be glorified or let off lightly, clearly he is no longer a threat to anyone.

He is receiving 24 hour nursing care at Belmarsh at a considerable cost to the tax payer. If he were to be released and leave the UK then the money could be better spent.

I often see reports of people being given a 6 year sentence but serving less, why is he required to serve his full sentence?

He played a bit part in the robbery anyway and 30 years was a robbery in itself. By some accounts having to live abroad from away from his native country was almost a sentence in itself.

BTW asking this sort of question on PH is liable to bring most responses of string him up etc...

30 years was a bit harsh, then again you can't enter into a life of serious crime and then whine when the society you are damaging catches up with you....

It would also appear that conditions in prison are a lot better than many care homes and hospitals

No, the only reason he got to take part was because he knew a train driver who was supposedly able to drive the train. He never even got on the train, just sat next to the getaway driver.

He used to live on the hill behind Lapa in Centro and his local was 'The Lord Jim pub' on the border between Ipanema and Leblon. He made a living (if you can call it) by having dinner parties / Barbies at $50-00 per head. He hated Rio and they hated him.
I've been to his house a few times but he was already ill when I was there and not holding any more parties.
