Hotel Recommendations....

FGess and I are off to Australia soon, and the plan is to do...

Bangkok - Sydney - Perth - Singapore

Staying with relatives in Perth for 12 days and 2 nights in each of the other places.

Anyone have any hotel recommendations in Bangkok, Sydney and Singapore - 4 star or better?

I can only talk of Sydney but:

One of the "best" hotels is the Park Hyatt. Pretty much underneath the Harbour Bridge and, therefore, opposite the Opera House. Overlooks the "main" harbour (Circular Quay). Meant to be lovely but expensive.

You then have one where I used to live the Hyde Park Hyatt. Opposite Hyde Park itself and a great location for walking in to the CBD yet still having a view of the park.

You also have the ANA and Radisson hotels. They are nearer Circular Quay but are in the middle of the CBD and therefore tend to have views of other tall buildings.

Bangkok has a plethora of 4/5 star hotels, we stayed in the 4 star Winston, but most are great and cheap too. may depend where you want to be in the city.

The old favourites in Bangkok are the Oriental and hte Shagri-La, but there is an amazing new Banyan Tree with a rooftop (61st floor ) bar and restaurant called Vertigo.

Can't beat the Meridian resort and Spa in Bangkok. Far enough out of the city to be "peaceful", but near enough for a short cab ride. Quality restaurants and bars, and the rooms are top drawer.

Oh yeah, and the Traders in Singapore...Was a few years ago now, but a top place.

You'll be spoilt for choice in Singapore as it's full of 4 & 5 star hotels, so it really all depends if you're loyal to a particular chain.

I stayed at LeMeridien on Orchard Road, which is decent enough, but the decor looked a bit dated for a 4 star hotel. One I wish I'd stayed in was Swissotel The Stamford - reportedly the 2nd tallest hotel in the world - with restaurants, nightclubs, bars, etc... up on the 71st and 72nd floors (watch out for dress code).

If money's no object, however, then you have the choice of the famous Raffles hotel and the uber luxurious 6 star Fullerton.

Bangkok - Penninsular comes highly recomended (as you would expect) but service was slightly patchy when I stayed (fruit in room had gone off, not replaced even after asking). Pool area and various bars/restaurants are flawless though (best cocktails I've ever had). Had dinner at the Shangri-la one night and that seemed excellent as well.

Have fun, I'm seething with jealousy!

Only know Perth, The Hyatt is kinda strange, like some cross between a hotel and five start 50's shopping precint. Rooms are good sized and well equipped. Also if you walk out of the back entrance through the shopping mall there is a superb restaurant on the left hand side.

I've also stayed in a Perth Hotel out on the coast, forget the area now and the name but the whole place sucked (apart fro mwatchignthe sun set over the ocean), make sure you are right in the city somewhere then everything is walkable.
