Least corny movies?

As a more constructive response to my "Why are movies so corny" thread, I thought I'd pose the question: What are the least corny movies - which are thought provoking and capable of surprising you. I've got one or two that I think are not your "bog standard Hollywood trash", including:

Pulp Fiction
American Beauty
Shawshank Redemption
Rocky VI (only joking)

Off the top of my head:

OldBoy : Suprised and shocked me in equal measure, fantastic Korean film. Spans genres (Thriller, Horror, bit of Martial Arts and a touch of VERY dark comedy too)

Once were Warriors : Great New Zealand film about a Maori family in the slums of auckland. Stars Temuera Morrison (Jango Fett) and directed by Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day) Powerful and different, great performances all round and an excellent ending.

Loads more but these sprung to mind as having a real wow factor when the credits rolled,

edited to add: Neither of the above are from Hollywood so apologies if that's what you were after. Love all the films you mentioned too though.

From Hollywood, 2 from the same stable - Fight Club and Seven. Both extraordinary and with very dark messages.

Also, I love Coen brothers films - definitely not corny but rather eccentric.

Fargo is a brilliant film, the other coen bros stuff is good too, although I don't rate Blood Simple as highly as others.

Seven is a breathtaking piece of filmaking. Manages to be relentlessly exciting without resorting to usual Hollywood tactics (Enormous explosions etc etc) It's non-stop and has one of the best endings ever!

I think Fight Club is VERY over rated though.

Fargo is brilliant but Raising Arizona is my favourite - just makes me laugh every time.

Not wishing to sound condescending but I think you kind of have to "get" Fight Club - it's very tongue-in-cheek and really quite sick - a bit of a sick joke I guess. I can't blame you if that doesn't appeal but I just love it.

sory but I thought shawshank redemption was full of it. I thought it was a corney chick flick full of the usual American pap. Still a good film though.

Just think it's not half as clever as it's trying to be, and even if it is, it's not very entertaining IMO.

I understand the message and I certainly don't think it's a bad film, I just didn't enjoy it.

Great selection, except Godfather 3 which is a very rushed and poorly told story.

Indeed, have to agree to disagree.

I'll take another look though, I've only seen it once and that was quite a while ago so perhaps on second viewing i'll appreciate it more.
