Property... Not personally but have quite a few friends and clients who have made an absolute mint.

I'm surprised you mention education as an investment. It took me 15 years after graduating to catch up financialy with the non grads on the shop floor. Given that todays graduates have to pay out a shed load and often end up unemployed or in a rubbish job plus the debt... work it out for yourself. I'd certainly never recommend higher education to my children.

Investments...
RR shares
bought at 133 and sold at 186, made just under 1K
bought at 108 and sold at 233, made over 3K

currently looking highish at about 275 each, usually the addages "remember, remember to buy in November" and "sell in May and go away" apply so I'll be watching the price with a view to a bit of Christmas shopping.

Does anyone know a share or market sector that peeks in Winter and is low in Summer?

Still outperforming everything else i've got. Although it does help that i bought them for about tuppence each when it was all a bit touch and go for them.

Property is the only investment for me, as that's apparently the safest thing to keep from Greedy Gordon.

Whats the point in saving for a pension when he's going to take half of it off me (inevitably) to pay for those that can't be bothered.

With more graduates being churned out year after year, it's going to become a basic requirement in time. Encourage them to do a degree that is sought after by employers and in short supply, e.g. maths, any science, any engineering disicipline...
