Things to do in Athens?
Discussion
I am in Athens with a couple of friends for a few days at the beginning of next month. We are going out for a wedding, but will have a couple of spare days that I would like to use constructively (drinks by the hotel pool are all we have planned at the moment!!). So does anyone have any suggestions of things that are worth doing in or around Athens?

If you have time you could also go on a day trip to Aegina from Piraeus. There are frequent hydrofoils & catamarans. There's quite a lot of info on this website.

Take the Elgin Marbles back in your hand luggage. They would look much better where they were intended to be before Lord Elgin stole them.
Yeah, and because we've got them they can still be loked at in much of their original splendour 0 take them back to the parthenon and they will end up like the Dryads - eaten away by the ridiculous levels of pollution in Athens. Send 'em some plastic copies - Elgin bought his statues fair and square and in doing so preserved them for all generations. It's not our fault and I don't see why we should apologise for a past legitimate transaction. Send us Byron's heart first!
I used to work as an English teacher in Athens, first stop has to be the Acropolis, bring your camera. You could literally spend most of the day up there, the views are fantastic.
Temple of Zeus is stunning. You could also take a trip down to Piraeus, the subway's OK as long as you don't travel during peak hours. Check out the flea market at Monastiriki. Tons of museums if that floats your boat.
I also used to help run a youth hostel there,we had these Glaswegian interrailers in, interrail pass is where you get 30 days rail travel to see as many places in Europe as you want.
Anyway these wegians had been pissing it up big style in our bar for about 4 or 5 days, I said to them guys where's your next stop ? they said that they were gonna hang about here cos the beer was cheap. I said have been to any of the touristy things in Athens ? they said no what's that like ?
I said well you've got the acropolis,... what's that ?
Well, trying to be somewhat sarcastic, it's basically a pile of old bricks.
Wegians...Are they looking for bricklayers ?
