Ann Bancroft was an actress who got on by being a good actress - not trading on looks or other such atributes. I don't think I've ever seen her play a bad role.

Sad news.

Even sadder, the only film I remember her in was The Graduate. One of the best films ever IMO.

Can't help thinking of the Parkinson interview with her. That was too painful to watch!!

No, your right Eric it wasn't. Hence the first line of my post. Excellent actress and a loss to both the industry and her husband too.
But I still stand by my comment. She was badly cast for the graduate in my opinion. Even she didn't like her role in the film.

Ali McGraw? It was Katherine Ross. Much nicer.

It's a shame about Anne Bancroft. She can only have been around 35 when she played Mrs Robinson. Whenever I watch it, I still think of her as an older woman.

Yes, I was thinking that she looked much older than 35/36 in the film. Still, it's not unknown for actresses to magically 'lose' a few years. No disrespect intended in the circumstances.

Katherine Ross? - delicious. She was in Butch Cassidy too.
