Coldplay - X&Y bought today

For all you fans out there, you'll think the new album is great. It's got some great tracks on it, especially 'Square One' which is the opening track. Probably six of the thirteen are proper Coldplay anthems.
Overall I'd say the album is on par with 'Parachutes' and not quite as good as 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'. It's less wrist-slitting than a lot of their previous work, and is very, very accomplished and polished.
Worth the £9.77 asking price (Tesco's) I'd say!

I was a little bit disappointed with rush of blood to the head to be honest with you. I thought parachutes was a really good album but felt that rush of blood to the head, although a collection of good songs, just didnt work as an album.
Hopefully the new one will be better, and I've no doubt it will have some good songs, but I'm not convinced it will work as an album. But that's probably just me talking crap!

I personally think the new album is FANTASTIC, not a duff song on it (though one which isn't quite as polished as the others, but still good). Its slightly longer than ROBTTH and Parachutes, but is the better for it imo.
My favourites are What If, X&Y, Low, Swalloed in the Sea and Til Kingdom Come (the bonus track).
Alot of what I've heard on the TV and radio recently has (I thought) not been up to par - Chris seemed to be missing the high notes and it didn't flow. This isn't the case with the album version which are exquisite.
This is the best of their albums (imho) and the best album I've ever bought.

You can't get away from the fact that they're formulaic, but then again most contemporary mainstream rock bands are, but Coldplay do make a good anthemic song, albeit in their bittersweet manner.
I got it delivered today as it was on pre-order from CD-Wow; the good bits seem as good as Coldplay's good bits, the rest is characteristically patchy.
One thing though, the copy I've been sent is a EU Copy-fccking-Protected disc. that means I've got to go through all the rigmarole of CD-Ex to get it on t'iPod

The thing about Coldplay (and every other band in the world) is that some people will like them, and some will think they're crap. Everyone has an opinion, which is why there are so many different styles of music to tend to the many different tastes.
I like just about all styles of music, except for heavy thrash-rock types of stuff (Slipknot, etc). I personally don't like Beatles stuff - I'm obviously in a minority, and I appreciate that they are loved around the world, but I just don't like the music.
People who like Coldplay will probably like the new album, because it's very 'similar' to previous work without sounding tired. I personally prefer the first half of the album to the second. It will be the fastest (and no doubt, highest) selling album of the year because there are millions who love their work, and love their style.
It can't be any worse than a bloody frog!

Me neither. Always thought they were a bit rubbish to be honest. Innovative, but rubbish... Apart from when that Lennon bloke was left to do his own thing.

I dunno... At least the Crazy Frog music had balls.
I don't mind Coldplay really, but I do have to be in the right sort of mood. I'm not in that mood very often - About once a year for a period of about thirty minutes, probably! I have concluded that owning one Coldplay album is more than enough for me.
