when i was trying for hours to set up a wireless internet thing in my house, i got so frustrated that i called the helpline (big mistake).

i got through ok and thought everything would be ok. this is roughly how the conversation went:

operator: hi, what is your name and location?
me: chris, england.
operator: ok........um.........i just need to fill in this online form with your answers.
me: ok
pause for 1 minute!
operator: what is your name and location?

6 minutes later i actually get round to a point when i am able to try and explain what the problem is!!!

he then tells me that he doesnt know anything about the product i am askign about!

that seriously annoyed me.

I gave up after 30 minutes waiting to speak to my insurance company’s subcontracted electrical products claims people.

Guess I’ll have to waste another half an hour tomorrow.

Thats nothing - when I used to work for Veritas technical support, 2 hours was standard and 3 hours wasn't uncommon.

That's when people had critical servers down and wanted support

Bastard Veritas, I rang them at 4:15 one day and held for 45 mins..... As the clock ticked over to 5:00 the holding message changed to:
"Thank you for calling. Office hours are 9:00 till 5:00 please call again" and cut me off.

Bastards

Thanks for reminding me about that

Don't ever try to phone Compaq CS.

I ended up shouting down the phone at the woman on the other end, after weeks of trying to track down my broken iPaq. She refused to tell me anything, or let me speak to a manager.

They sent me a brand new one, and then somebody phoned me up to say they took my case very seriously, and would be in touch.

Never heard back from them. Never bought a Compaq product again.

That’s nothing, about 7 months ago I started to contact my ISP-Phone company (Telstra clear New Zealand) about moving to a new house, they claim they can move you for $25 and I still needed the service so it was happy. Any way they didn’t get back to me so I rang them again…and again…and again (I’m not joking when I say I contacted at least 15 different people). In fact I waited so long that after two months I just gave up, stopped paying my bills etc and apparently they are supposed to charge me $300 to opt out of a contract plan. Some 6 months later they have still not contacted me about the bill or changing my connection. I’m signed up to a slightly better company now because I didn’t have time to play games with their customer service.

Interestingly the company’s slogan is “Now is good” which I find quite ironic and humorous.

After a lot of messing about by the Apple Store on the status of my new computer order (Apple said it was sent, TNT denied ever picking it up), I started phoning every day as they never kept their promises "to call me back shortly". The problem was the amount of time you had to wait on hold just to get the standard "call you back shortly" response.

I finally had enough, and on the Monday morning I called and decided to wait on the phone while they got the information for me.

I just left the phone on mute and put the speakerphone on low so I could hear if anyone picked up, and I wasn't worried about the cost of the call as it was an 0800 number. I was in the office regularly from 8am to 8pm and not once did they pick up.

I finally hung up at about Friday lunchtime when I got a call on my mobile to tell me my computer had arrived at home.

So, my record is just short of 4 days on hold (obviously lost in the black hole of their phone system and just no disconnected) to the UK Apple Store - however I will now kill someone if I never hear Enya again.

Why on earth were you ringing them for technical support? Did you think the orange balance was out on your TV's or something?

Which is why everyone should have this page bookmarked:

www.saynoto0870.com/

They won't make a penny and I've noticed you get straight through on some numbers

Lloyds Business Banking is the dogs danglies! They answer the phone before you've finished dialing

Very highly recommended if you are searching for a new (business) bank.

My girlfriend had a lot of problems with Powergen, too many to go into here but it was a catalogue of incompetence.

She says British Gas are going the same way - she's been in her flat since January, not received a bill so she phoned to ask why and they said they didn't have a record of her meter despite the fact she's had electricity since January.

They were supposed to come round on Tuesday to take a record of it but didn't turn up so she called them again and was told that despite the fact they couldn't guarantee someone would turn up, she should take the day off work anyway!

I've no idea - don't work for tech support now.

I just convince mugs to part with their company's cash now
