Who wins? The catering suppliers! The kids are buying lots more snacks from them and margins on apples, bananas and lentil bars are better than Mars bars.

I think it's a great idea. Wish they had brought it in earlier; I would have loved an iPod for eating healthy food for a year.

It'll get them into the habit of eating healthy, showing them it can be as tasty as chips and pizza.

The guy who runs the school meals programme for thec ity was on Five Live last night with the presenters taking the pi55 out of him. Serves 64million school meals a year ...

Sounds OK to me ... not every bleedin' kid is gonna get one.

What's a few ipods and xboxs in his budget - nowt!

I was listening to the radio yesterday when the interviewed some twit who's promoted this scheme. When asked "Why should our taxes be spent on this he replied to the effect that: "Some of the money does come from Council Tax, but most of it comes from the Regional Development Fund".

Obviously, this Regional Development Fund* is some sort of magic tree upon which money grows unchecked.

Socialist leech scum.

* Or whatever it actually was I can't remember, some utterly worthless enterprise set up by the Government as a check on democracy and sluice for hard-working people's money.

They should be eating healthily for their own well being not to gain some bloody esso points.

Did you not see that nutritionist on Jamies School Dinners talking about impacted constipation amongst children?

Heres a though, eat heathily or you'll die before 50.

Obesity is set to be the biggest preventable killer, even ahead of smoking. This should be bloody incentive enough.

iPods indeed.

Or the alternative is to eat what you want and rob an iPod off someone in the street.

So there is hope, as the chav-classes eat themselves into early graves.

I read a report somewhere that the chav-classes generally have rougher, poorer skin because of the crap food that they eat compared to the non chav-classes who eat decent grub.

Radiant Sir!!

Is that to match their rougher, poorer economic classification?

Ooof...

Theres another major point here. OK, so little Johnny has to stomach some rabbit food at school and OK, if he's a good boy then he gets his mitts on an X-Box, but:

Thats only one meal. I suppose the full English at brekkie time, then the pizza and chips all washed down with a large glass of lard at home isn't going to do his poor little arteries any good now, is it?

I can sort of understand the schools wanting to do right for the kids. However, kids are kids and it was mentioned on the radio yesterday that some kids had started to eat 2 meals as 1) a way of earning more points; and 2) to wash all that poxy salad down with a nice plate of chips and a pie.

Marvellous. Incentivised cobblers.

I'm sure the reward or eating healthy used to be a healthy life!!! Maybe I'm missing something at 40 - obviously kids prefer to die young and fat these days! Ah well....population growth too much anyway!

£100 gets you a "top of the range" ipod apparently plus £100 of food.

So where can I get these cards from? I can see a nice bit of extra business...

The happy fool they interviewed on 5Live yesterday had convinced himself that the children enjoying this scheme were taking the good news home and persuading their parent/s to abandon convenience food too.

Do any of you lot have school-age kids? Do you know what they eat at school? Do you know what they pinch from tthe fridge/cupboard when you're polishing your car?

Kids eat what kids want to eat most of the time - you can sit there until you're blue in the face saying eat your veg - it won't work!

You've got to start them early and introduce them to mosre vried food as they grow up.

Steaming in and saying - eat healthily otherwise you'll be obese and die early - and expecting them to all sit up and take in what you say and then change their diet accordingly – you may as well be talking Chinese for all the notice they'll take.
