Not sure if this has been discussed yet but I wanted to make sure this film gets the recognition it deserves. It's on a limited release in UK cinemas at the moment, but if it's showing near you I urge you to take a look.
I finally saw this film (after lots of anticipation) last night, and I absolutely loved it.
Sure there’s not much of a story at all, and it can be a bit cheesy but the martial arts and action scenes are just mind-blowing.
This is definitly up there with the finest martial arts films of all time. I’d almost forgotten how incredible real (but expertly choreographed) martial arts could look (With Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Kill Bill, Crouching Tiger, the Matrix and most other modern martial arts films all being particularly fond of wire work, CGI and other SFX)
Tony Jaa is a future legend and a true master, his skills as both a martial artist and an acrobat are some of the most impressive I’ve ever seen. He definitly comes across as a sort of Jackie Chan (acrobatics and humor) and Bruce Lee (raw combat) hybrid, and he’s better than fantastic to watch with real character to his style. He does ALL his own stunts in this film and you just have to see it to realise how cool that is.
See this movie, it rocks!

You won't find any of that in Ong Bak mate, it's far more impressive IMO than any of the wire work that's been so heavily used since the Matrix and Crouching tiger.
Like I said though, he did EVERYTHING in the film, no effects, no aids and no stand-ins.
Watch it asap, you won't regret it.

Have got it but haven't watched it yet. Used to do thai boxing so it will be interesting to see how realistic it is. I can't stand all this kung-fu flying through the air cr@p,k and how even 'normal' fights in films now have the hero jumping 50 feet up in the air and such.

Luc Besson bought the rights, if you look in the film after the chase sequence (phenomenal by the way), written on the wall is "Luc Besson we want you" or something like that...
They only effects used were some padding and the odd padded wig.
