Am I REALLY the only person who can remember a toy called 'Trik trax' or similar??

Google has admitted defeat. I'm not giving any clues as to what the toy was like to avoid cheating...

Trik Trax? Think they still had that in the '80s - a sort of flexible linked-together track and a clockwork or battery-powered car that did a variety of stunts.

For all you '80s kids - anyone remember what 'Darda' was?

Wasn't that a cheap-man's scalextric kind of thing? Except it ran a long spring around the roadway and you slotted cars into the spring?

We had this thing called 'playing'. It involved going outside, even if it was raining, and lots of games, football, hide-and-seek type things, cycling.

No X-box, not a lot of TV, and not a lot of obesity/trying to be sexually active at 12/dressing like an adult.

It was called trik trak if I remember correctly. It looked brilliant on the TV ad. my next door neighbour had one and it didn't live up to the hype.

The track wasn't continuous but had different little 'stunt' sections that you lined up and let the car run through. It was either clockwork or battery powered. It might have been bettter on a hard floor I think we were running it on the carpet.

I was going to a Beaulie Auto Jumble a few years ago, and on my journey there began reminsicing about my old Trix Trax game when i was a kid. After about an hour of walking around I was amazed to see a Trix Trax set for sale, there were actually two, but one was in bad shape. The bloke said it was the first one he had seen in yearsm, if ever. I don't quite know why i didn't buy it, something about not wanting to relive a past and all that.

Anyway, the weird thing is I was thinking about that Trix Trax set two nights ago, and then your post about it appears. I know what you mean by thinking your the only one who would remember, you are the only other person i have heard of mention it.

It was a two car set, with wind-up friction motors, the clever bit was creating your own virtual track because the cars had rigid non-steering wheels, you could use the supplied tunnels and curves to change the car's direction, allowing it to run along an imaginary straight before it reached another deflecting track object. Great for under your parents sofa and round the coffee table courses. It came with little fences and red barrels or cones that you could use for stunt stuff. It was made by Triang i think.

Your thinking of a product from Matchbox. primative, but at least it was motion, and to an 8 yr old with a static toy car collection, that was important...

What about the evel kneivel motorbike thing.
You plonked it on a red stand, wound the lever to the right, and off it popped, hopefully up on the back wheel halfway down the road.


Mind you, I also remember playing football/rugby games that were on average four hours long.

My mate had that Evel Kenivel bike... it was great until we lauched through an internal 1970's glass door..... Ouchhhhh so much trouble with my mum.

Hmmmmm....... Choppers/Tomohawk/Budgie bikes, space hoppers, simon says, Top Trumps, Hornby train sets...... Toys from yesteryear...

google is poo with old toys.

i've been looking for an old toy for ages.

it consisted of a musical device with 2 rows of heads on, these heads opened their mouthes wide when the note was pressed.

i seem to remember seeing them with seaseme street, muppets and frogs on. but i can't find anything close to it on the net.

I still remember to this day, watching my wind up evel kinevel stunt bike heading across the bedroom floor, up a ramp and out of the open window.

What I didn't see at the time was the afore mentioned stunt bike heading off into orbit from the 1st floor window before plumeting back down to earth and missing my mum by 1/2 an inch.

Them were the days.

Wasn't it Matchbox Motorway? 2 lanes with continuous springs in a figure of 8, with 2 little petrol pumps alongside the track. You stuck little spikes to the bottom of your Matchbox cars - they could never catch the car in front because the spring held them at the same distance within the lane (don't tell the Gov't about it - it'll become motorway policy!!)

My cousin had a boxing robots game that you had hand controls outside the ring and aimed punches at your opponents robot. a good hit and the head would zing up. What was that called?

Also I had (have somewhere) two plastic cars which had a rip cord to operate a big black wheel in the middle of each - smash them at each other and doors,bonnets and wheels etc would fly off - stock Car Smashup??? A beetle and a pick up truck IIRC.

How about Matchbox Streak Racing, the two tracks were clipped to the back of a chair, you let your cars race down the track, they loop the loop before tipping the flag at the end!

Also a rare one was a remote control car by Matchbox called Setron 9 circa 1981. It was a Porsche 928 with a remote control with different functions, you programmed it and it then went on the course you had entered.

I think I had that! They were a bit brittle IIRC so I went through a few of them. I think the 928 evolved into a Ferrari Testarossa - I had 2 'Rossas, one red, one green.

I had a Matchbox Ferrari F40 at one point too with an alarm that could be set with a key in the back.

And what about Matchbox 'Race Stars'? Mine was a Porsche 917. They had a delayed pull-back mechanism so they'd do a kind of 'rolling start', humming along at a slow speed, then rocketing off across the kitchen floor. Had a habit of destroying skirting boards

You are right. It was Matchbox Motorway. I had it. An absolute pisser trying to keep the slinky springs in good nick and not all tangled up. I seem to remember the track was orange and grey??
