Following on from this thread - it now looks like I'm going to have to set the legal dogs on the O** Stop Phone Shop, and possibly a certain fruit-flavoured mobile phone company, to cancel and unauthorised contract set up in my name and recover the money I've had to pay on the contract and the cost of a new handset. Never had to do anything like this before so some advice on how to approach it would be welcome. Would have gone through Trading Standards if there was anyone there would pick up the phone

Gave both the companies an ultimatum to resolve the matter by the end of last week or I set the dogs loose - both failed to even bother calling me back.

Yep, that'll wake them up. No point in throwing good money after bad: close the gates.

Hello Pete,
I am one of those people who refuse to accept anything other than perfect service from people who are paid to simply do their job properly.
If they don't, complain.
You have gone through the motions now you have to sort these people out.
The first thing you do is go to OFTEL, they regulate all telephone companies operating in the UK, and they will take your complaint very seriously and do something about it instantly.
The Trading Standards are totally and utterly useless, completely impotent in real terms and have never helped me constructively in any case I've been involved in.
Go to your County Court and get a Small Claims pack from the Clerk's office. Follow the instructions and lodge your claim with the Clerk, they will then serve a citation on the company involved and from that moment on if you win, or they admit liability, they are fully responsible for the costs of everything you do.
It's fairly straightforward and all you have to do is stick to your guns and keep a clear head.
You won't believe the change in attitude from a company the soon as a citation drops through their letterbox!!
You are then taken deadly seriously!!
Good luck.

I had an issue with O2 last year. I went on their corporate website, found the name of the CEO, faxed him a very reasonable letter along the lines of "I'm writing to you in desperation as I can get nowhere with your customer sewrvice people". 24 hours later and Bob's your mothers brother its all sorted.

If ever I get into difficulties with a big company I always write to the chairman or CEO. They never see the letter but the problem always gets sorted.

Did that straight away - the only response from [insert reddish-yellow colour here] was for some jumped-up call centre monkey to threaten me with a credit blacklisting Said I had to sort it through the original supplier no matter what and I had no choice but to keep paying should they fail to co-operate! Told him there was no way that was going to happen and that I'd be suing all and sundry. Then the ct just hung up on me. So much for customer service...

Good, so thats the financial worry sorted.

I would chronicle events as they ocurred and then call the main switchboard (not call centre) to attempt to find the customer services directors name at the Telco

The supplier are neither here nor there as far as you are concerned, if anything the Telco should be on your side as they are subsidising a non existant phone...

Hmmm, I already have the CS Director's name - it was on the welcome letter

As for the original supplier, they still have the money for the original order that went tits up - I would like it back and in a way that causes them as much aggro as possible.

The sums involved are relatively small at the moment - a few hundred quid tops, but the amount of time and hassle it's taking trying to get this sorted is having a serious impact on my work levels.
