Just had a very noisy lunch today in what normally is one of my favourite restaurants. It was in Malta. The offending item was a table of seven what can only be described as “hoo-rah-henries” – 5 women and 2 men. British of course At a guess I’d say they were mostly in the 30 to 50 age group. Apparently they were from the British Embassy.

They insisted on relaying tedious, plum in the mouth, anecdotes at 200 Db across the whole restaurant (which seats about 20 and is only slightly larger than my lounge). The topics of conversation varied from vibrators, wife swapping, how pissed they were last night, smear tests and breast scans (the latter two when the men had left the room – the men at their table that is). All liberally punctuated with raucous gaffawes (sp?) at an even louder volume. The women all seemed to be pissed on champagne and managed to drop and smash about 3 glasses between them. Plus there was a constant traffic of people from their table, through the restaurant, popping outside for a cigarette (non-smoking restaurant) or to answer mobile phones.

It wasn’t just me because, by the main course each time another ear splitting gaffawe rang out I found my self making eye contact with bemused diners on other tables clearly thinking the same as me. The proprietor of the restaurant also saw fit to apologise for the noise when I paid the bill. Although I told him not to worry as it wasn’t his fault.

Honestly, the way these supposedly upperclass yobs were behaving I think I’d rather been next to a table of chavs or football supporters.

They are chavs, they just have lots of money.

Think about it - they're antisocial, loud, offensive, they break rules and expect exemption, they flash designer labels in your face and they give the British a bad name abroad.

Chavness has absolutely nothing to do with money - it's an attitude (ie attitude problem)

They work at the embassy?

Write a letter to both the embassy the the ambassador, and the Foreign Secretary's office make sure you intimate how their behaviour refelcted badly on UK etc.

If you dont whats the point getting upset?

Very good point, be sure to include all the questionable subjects they discussed while you ate you meal and say that when they spoke in hushed tones the whole restaurant was craning their necks to hear what was being said! Might make the Ambassador raise his eyebrows.
I get that at work sometimes, over loud conversation imposed on all and sundry and often in your own office. Usually needs a sharp, loud bark from a red faced person to bring things back to normal...

Erm, no. 'Chavs' are definately a social group of people as opposed to a state of mind, these were definately 'hooray henries' - of which i am well aquainted here at Exeter uni...

The green welly brigade - marvellous!

Shouldn't vixpy1 be defending them by now?

But chavvy behaviour is chavvy behaviour regardless of who is doing it.

Well I was enjoying the sun in the beer garden of a pub in Marlow. Outside Ferraris and Aston Martin's were to be seen, but in the beer garden we had some very loud chavs (who were also female!).

I'm afraid you can't escape from anti-social Brits

Quite a fair few people think a 'posh accent' makes up for a lack of intelligence and decorum. Life is full of them. Live and let live I reckon. They may talk loudly with a silly accent but they'll be pissed off when I flash my car up outside their house at 7am.

A quick note to The Ambassador explaining that you were there discussing a large business deal with a foreign client and that his likely investment in UKplc is now most unlikely...

That should see their Ferrero Rocher supply nicely curtailed.
